Yes. Take the Estes job. It's better than 99% OTR mills. If you have any questions let me know. I've been in the LTL industry for 10+ years.

I agree with your "asking a whole lot more questions" but must disagree with the worries about being labeled a "job hopper". If anyone in the trucking industry could be labeled as such it would be me. I've had 12 jobs in the last 4 years and have never had a problem getting another job. In fact, I get offered two jobs a week on average as a 66 year old driver. I've quit jobs just because a manager was not respectful, or I didn't think the equipment was up to par. Within a week I have a new job...that's no exaggeration.

The trucking industry is hurting for Class A drivers with even a modicum of experience and a clean driving record---period! If you had a hundred jobs it makes no difference to the company that has trucks sitting and loads waiting. They will hire you if you move just a few loads and quit. At least, that's been my experience in the Northwest. I can't say for sure in other parts of the country.

Fantastically uplifting story that, I'm sure, will have a sterling outcome at the end. Congratulations on your ability to be positive and move forward in the face of adversity---you and you son!
My suggestion would be to not hire on with a big company or listen to recruiters at all. I would have your son take his resume and approach local trucking companies that are not big advertisers or known as big trucking companies. They have cheating down to an art form.
Have your son call or drop in on 20 local small companies with his resume in hand. I bet he gets a job within a week and is happier in the long run.

    Good luck!

Same for Ohio.... i still hear from people I inquired to TEN years ago.... I need to change my email address.... (only one I HAVEN'T heard back from ... EVER.... is Estes. Hard pill to swallow.)

Actually, a company I hauled asphalt to, infrequently, in Columbus, a man from their company literally DROVE AN HOUR to my house, and hand delivered a letter to the wife, wanting to hire me away from the competition. As long as the DMV etc.... is clean and clear, we are a desired group.

If Estes Express offered him a job he should take it. It's worth the wait to move into a line haul job in a few months. I know drivers at Estes in another state that make over $70K and home every day on line haul runs.

What state are you in, if he has a valid Hazmat. Stericycle is hiring for Class A regional and OTR

I just got hired doing driving Class B making 20.80 and hour, I ship off to Texas or Georgia and Texas for training in a couple weeks

I've tried in the past to get on with Estes. Good company.
Your son should jump on that, he's got nothing to lose.
    Good luck.
