Is the money going to be better with my own van or with a LS van?

I'm prepared to haul their van for the first year.

I personally found owning the trailer is a good return on a investment.A van trailer you can find at a responsible price the extra money made, and trailers maintenance is a lot lower. But the disadvantage at companies like Landstar is you will lose out on drop and hooks.

That is a good question. You will lose out on some good drop/hook opportunity at times. It is not a big deal as long as freight is busy, there are plenty of loads, but in the winter/slow times being able to drop/hook can keep you from sitting.

Example, this week my 3 loads are all drop/hook on one end, not both ends.
2 of which pay very well, that I could not have done with my own trailer.

I can park my trailer if need be. Might be easier to pull a company trailer for a few months

I watched a LandStar load board webcast
Last week and the lady said always ask for the agent to break up the amount the load pays, if it shows there is no accessorials (for FSC) , so that the BCO can get 100% of that part.
So is that something that most of you guys do, or you just take it as is.
    Thanks.

I always split out as much as I can get.
Fuel, expedited, overnight, hm, stops, load unload, assist or count, any time I need a twic, or I know it will be difficult like an airport, cross dock or a show.
