Ok, I failed to understand the true impact of my MVR until halfway through driving school. I have a speeding 73/55 and following too closely as a result of an accident. Both are one year old.

No one is touching me. I've read up and down on this forum about Swift and Werner, and sure as heck, they were the only two companies I applied to that approved me, no questions asked, no interviews, no nothing. It's fishy to me, but after what I've read, it makes sense.

I don't want to be a statistic, however. I don't want some stupid error or retaliation by the company to put a bad mark on my DAC.

I am on unemployment, bills are stacking up, and I need to make a decision. I am awaiting word from Willis Shaw Express to see if their safety department will let me slide, if not, I am out of options.

My intent is to drive clean for a company for a year so I can get the experience, and apply to a better company. Will working with Werner or Swift really "taint" you as a driver? As in, will companies not want to hire you simply because you've worked for a company like Werner or Swift?

I continue to apply to every company I can think of, minus a few that I know to be bad business, but I feel like it's coming down to these two.

What would you guys advise? Again, I just want to do my time, run it legal, and get out.

    Many thanks
    -Andrew

Current economy...you might as well use the shotgun method of applying, with your record. And hope someone bites.

I didn't notice where you're from. But, many companies are laying off more experienced drivers with perfect driving records. So you'll be competing with them for jobs.

Your only saving grace, they can hire you at a reduced rate of pay.

If you do succeed in getting hired, neither company will 'taint' you. Just make sure you keep your record absolutely spotless, pay attention, and eventually, you will be able to move to a better company. Do not be surprised if you do have difficulties, as the market is very tight right now.

One thing to keep in mind, and this is for any driver, not just new ones, is that everything that goes on your driving record affects your personal auto insurance. A trucking company's insurance company is even pickier because you are getting behind the wheel of an 80,000 pound vehicle that can do a lot more damage than your personal vehicle. Good luck with it, and keep us posted.

This might apply in some states, but here in Texas it doesn't I had a ticked in Feb my insurance co says it won't affect my personal insurance. This was true because when I renewed my insurance in July, my rate wasn't affected.

You also may get the call, go to orentation, and be sent home as soon as safety checks your record. Then you won't have unemployment either.

If you do go, don't get off unemployment until you have keys to a truck, or are leaving with a trainer.

I guess I shouldn't say everything, but moving violations are more likely to affect your insurance rates than non-moving violations. I'm sure each state is different. Another thing that helps is having been with an insurance company for awhile. Glad it didn't affect your rates. My oldest just recently got a speeding ticket, and it did affect his rates. We are in Wisconsin though.

I never drove for either company, but from what I heard from friends who drove for them (one of my best friends from the Marine Corps was with Swift for 2 years) you might be making more money on unemployment.

I would shoot out more app's and try for someone who will pay more, even a local company owned by a family, CocaCola, Pepsi, Conway Freight, Roadway, someone, ANYONE.

My hubby drew his unemployment when he went to school. They said it was actually considered a school and in the state of Georgia, as long as you go to school you can draw your unemployment without actually having to apply for jobs. All they asked him to do was have them(the company) fill out a couple of papers and mail them back to the unemployment office. As soon as he went on the road with a trainer, he had to stop due to being paid.

One the speeding ticket usually 15 mph and over is considered a reckless operation, I was doing 51 in a 35 zone and swift hired me, but the pay starting out wasn't that great you really have to budget yourself on the road and for there training its not bad.[if you get a trainer that cares].... good luck
