There have recently been a group of drivers forming to try and stop the ELD mandate.
At this point it has grown to over 9000 members in about 2 weeks.
We are going to challenge the HOS rules,The 30 minute break and the 14 hour non-stop clock.

This is for owner Ops,Small fleets and drivers who feel that ELDs are going to hurt their bottom line.
Anyone who feels this way is welcome to join as our plan to go to DC later this year is coming together.

This will be an organized, peaceful event in Washington.
Once all of the permits, parking and lodging logistics are worked out we will have a solid plan.

9000 out of a couple hundred thousand?

    protesting at the WH?

Seriously, a bit of advice, learn how to talk to the people who represent YOU.

Get them to engage YOU about the problems and then see where it leads.

YOU will start with a staffer, which is ok, then it will move up.

Stay on point, take one subject and only one subject, put it into a message, making it personal that someone outside the industry can understand and relate to and use that every time, stay on point. Don't sway into stupid crap like how the HOS violations you got were unfair or how the cops pull trucks over without cause - the message will get ignored.

One trick is to go with a group of people, like 20 from different districts in one state and set up appointments with house members of each district and then with senate members.

YOU can more effectively get a message across to those who actually can force changes than standing outside the WH demanding something to be done about a safety related device that YOU do not like.

This isn't the 1970s, this isn't a cause that the public really cares about because the public looks at trucking accidents as mass killings. AND how the public goes, the reps go.

The same with petitions, learn this important fact >>>> unless there is a signature from a registered voter with a voting record, the signature means little.

I learned all of this a long time before and it worked for some of the causes that I was part of.

Ill also bet the same people that are all upset about this 6 months out from implementation made no comment to the fmcsa during the comment period in 2011 .
I did and crying about it now is a joke !
As usual most of the industry has sat on they're hands , heads in the sand thinking someone else with fix it for them ..it didn't happen and I don't have much sympathy for em.

I've got a few drivers in their late 60's who say 'it is just another type of log book, no big deal'.

Don't get me wrong I'm neither for or against elds but the writing has been on the wall for a long time and I just chose to adapt as opposed to being caught with my pants down .
Some friends say ill just run local and that's great but what ya gonna do when that market is saturated ?

I don't want to work over 14 hours a day.
    I'd like a 12 hour window and a 12 hour break.
