We can thank Werner for E-logs.
It was punishment for them back in the 90's...It was either run them or shut down due to the terrible record they had with the DOT. Ever notice the stickers on Werner trailers? "The pioneers of electronic logs"..
Then the other Mega outfits followed..

The small outfits with good DOT ratings should not be force fed this crap!
Agree, disagree or whatever it is the downward spiral of trucking...

This used to be a profession, now any yahoo that can slip through a CDL school gets thrown in a truck.
Then we wonder why our wages have stayed about the same over the years...

Anyone with a brain should realize the HOS rules are a freakin joke!
30 minute break is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of....Like anyone will sleep 30 minutes or run around the truck for exercise....lol!.

I don't stop for naps because I can run my 11 straight and then some, but it should be OUR choice.
Not some #### box on the dash ticking away!
I guess some people just need a babysitter on the road!......I personally feel the FMCSA is a dang joke and we are getting reamed with no lube!

I knew this thread would be a bash fest from the steering wheel holders who never used anything but E-logs.

So Mods please close this thread, delete it or whatever.....The "sheeple" can't take it!

I knew it would come to a "you aint a real man" kind of argument. Well, even when I was a Recon Team leader in the Army, I would catch a nap when I could. This machismo thing that goes on in trucking is so darn high school it is pathetic. Is it any wonder that politicians view trucking as unskilled. too many children behind the wheel.

If you were smart you napped where possible.

I recognize the spirit of Tucker, roll on. No naps. And smile when I consider the naps I steal in all sorts of situations because I know that I will be rolling on a long way later on tonight.

I don't truck anymore where i am in life and have all sorts of naps availible. Don't need them. In one of my books there is a B29 (Related to B29 engines and manufactoring of, a excellent read for those so inclined) is a photo of a airman crew taking a nap during the over pacific flight to or from Japan because there are so many hours and he's weary. I hope that nap was good because it will be time to be sharp later.

I got out of trucking before the Elogs went into effect and felt that with the exception of the last month out being a part of a team made the then current paper HOS logs very manageable. A computer telling me what hours I have accumulated and what I have left ready to squawk a violation to the minute rubs me the wrong way. Always have. It's not the hours, it's the dispatchers who tell people who are too new and weak to say no back when asked to run illegally.

Some of you has pointed out that the HOS runs out a hour before delivery. I have had that happen many times. I even had one admit that he used a car to travel the A to B before signing a contract saying that his trucks will do the same distance, route and be there at those times. (They wont.... minus a hour or two at most) I hope that those who run trucks to sign contracts will use a loaded semi and current HOS to prove or disprove the expected delivery.

I never had a mandatory nap. In fact I don't want uncle sam telling me I have to stop for 30 minutes. I might spend it in the arcade room with a stack of quarters. 30 minutes is not a nap. And to have to take it? Disrupts the flow of wheels rolling mid day. When you are in the groove 300 miles gone and 200 to go, it's not half bad at all. No naps needed or wanted. I already know where I will get my naps against what I will be doing at 2 am long after Uncle Sam went to bed tonight.

There is a form of trucking back in the mid 90's that I had a brief reprieve from logging hours hauling freight for war effort bound for the ports to go to Korea it was a open secret in the trucking but not a peep in the media. (Which was good unlike those that leak something important when one of our strike forces are inbound...) there was some of the freight that was run because they have to be on that ship, logs be ######.

One of you posted about a cerfew in Knoxville. I wonder if all the cities and towns etc started posting cerfews and suddenly half the USA trucks have to sit still for a period of time every night. That will interfere and slow down commerce more than it's already is.

Getting HOS changed in congress will have to have a large number of representatives decide that this will be a bill brought to the floor through committee and then voted on. The leadership (About 8 people from Speaker down to the whips...) decides what is on the floor today. And HOS is not going to be one of those bills. Not for years. If I knew how to get the leadership to bring a HOS bill to the floor then a effort should be started.

Im sort of reluctant to sprout any more thoughts, Im beginning to see where this thread might repeat itself round and round in greater emotional output which really does not interest me. But it is what it is.

I'm not against the ELD in itself, it's the forced G mandate that makes me bristle. If one chooses to use them, go for it, I'm happy for you, but don't cram your ideas down my throat and make me pay for something I don't need or want . Paper logs have worked fine for all theses years. If one choses to violate the existing laws, well, that's on them.
For those that think that the ELD will somehow improve highway safety, I guess that's just a special kind of stupid, but I digress... I will say no more on this subject..

So which of us is "cramming" the idea down your throat? Sure, ideas have been expressed, and one is free to agree or disagree, but not sure anyone is threatening you or holding you down at gun point and "cramming" anything down your throat. You are as free as ever to decide your own path.

He pulls over dimensional loads. Most big urban areas have some type of curfews during morning or evening rush hours.

Sorry but I can't help you.
I thank the DOT every time I get a inspection for
    The 10 hour break.
The tighter they've gotten with the hours of service,
    The more I've made.
I work less and than I ever have and make more than I
    Did the old way.

I want no parts of 20 hour days anymore,
    Back to back to back.
We no longer have to cover for everybody else's
    Laziness and screw ups.

    Don't run off,
you have to be prepared when you talk to your Congressman or whoever,

What do you want? No rules at all?
So we can drive cross country nonstop swigging energy drink?

If they get rid of the 14 hour rule, the 10 hour break is odd and useless now.

What about the 11 hours of driving?
What do you do with that now that the 14 is gone and we don't need a 10 hour break?
What about the 70 hour rule ?

Let's say you will only drive when you're rested,
What about the other drivers? Will they?

The government has been forcing driver to buy paper log books so forcing elogs costs is sorta the same.

Cone back and tell us what kind of hour rules you want
