There's a BIG difference from someone being forced to drive (elogs) then someone taking a nap because their tired (on paper).

This is exactly what we're doing. We both try to run 8 hours a day and sleep 8 hours a day together. We sometimes drive later or wake up earlier, but there's never a moment that the truck's wheels can't be turning. If we stick to that plan, we always have recap hours available for a full day. It may not make the most money, but it's plenty for us and we get to stay rested and happy(and compliant).

Underlined part is what I've been saying.

That belief that "this is trucking" will disappear QUICK!!. No reciever wants to be out of product in this "just-in-time" environment.

Oh, and if I show up at their dock/yard and they dont pay detention, then they WILL PAY storage fees.

E-logs will force some painful renegotiations to happen quick. Most pain will be felt by lying brokers, incompetent dispatchers and arrogant recievers. Only the stupid truckers will bend over on fear of "not getting the next load"

What I dont get is the mindset that a carrier (O/O in this case) cannot add/modify a shipping contract without "fear" of load cancellation. Why would you sign a contract that, even after you've met the delivery time as agreed, cannot demand detentions fees to the fullest?????

My truck/trailer IS NOT STORAGE, and I'm not a security guard....but if I were both, then my price for such service is $100/hr...sign here ________

This whole belief that we need to care about "relationships" has to end, of some parties to that relationship are abusive. simple. Truckers take abuse coz they scared of not getting a load, is like battered women, who stay even after a beat-down. They need to even out the relationship, and I believe E-log will be a good step in making that happen. They just need to grow a pair.

Good point. This past Thursday when it was busy, I told two brokers to put on the RC $100hr detention, or they can find another truck. One ended up paying extra $300 actually.
On the slow market, they just would say they can't do it and find another sucker for $25hr after 3hrs

I think the rude awakening will be for the shippers/receivers out here that have been reliant and dependent on the cost savings of drivers who always willingly cooked their logbooks. The customers that are clueless about the issue and for everyone that's preparing there's a bunch that aren't. The pressure on them is not going to start in December. It'll start much sooner. Most trucking companies that haven't already are transitioning to EOBR over this summer and fall. This is a pressure cooker slowly building up to December. For us small fish we better be taking advantage of the rates at every opportunity between now and years end.

Unfortunately not everyone says NO! We all need to be in full 100% control of our lives and the truck.
