I own my own truck and I have a question about having to get your own authority. The guy that I'm leased onto is coming up with all sorts of crazy ideas, some of which are costing me money. One of these crazy ideas is that within the year all owner operators living and working in the state of Illinois must have their own authority as it will be mandatory for the state of Illinois as by law. Has anyone else heard anything like this or is this just b.s..

Have you read that for yourself on Illinois DOT site. See it for yourself then you will know whether it is true.

Maybe it is time just to find another company to lease with.

No. No such laws are taking place. It would be an absurd for something like that to be mandatory. It is nothing but B.S.

Ya the workers comp was 2 weeks ago that cost me 1300 dollars, then when he came up with this I thought I'd do a little research and I came to the same conclusion it's all garbage. He is probably just trying to chase everyone off he can sell all the land and buildings and he won't have to pay taxes on anything business related then he can get his brokerage license and it's all pure profit and none of the expense from there on out. Thanks to all who have replied.

Don't know about Illinois but worker comp is usually paid by the independent contractors if your leased to him your responsible for your own workers comp.in NC.So doubt he trying to get out of that but with your own authority you would be responsible for your own liability insurance with leased trucks he is required to carry that on all leased trucks to him but he can also turn around and charge you for that.He sounds more like diner talk someone else might have told him that story and he's just repeating it.not really saving him much for you to run your own attorney he then would have to give you a bigger rate to cover your additional expenses.

    Railmitt Thanks this.
