why do so many truckers wear headphones?

If a driver is wearing one with two earpieces, it's not the best idea, that driver can be limiting his ability to hear outside sounds. In some states, if not all (I don't know how many, honestly), it's illegal to drive with both ears covered.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Some of us drove older trucks that were lucky to even have am/fm radios, plus they only covered one ear.

There is no issue hearing sirens etc when wearing headphone or earbuds unless wearer has music cranked to full volume but if they do that with head phones they would do the same using the speakers in truck. No laws around here regarding headsets

Because cellphones come free with a set of headphones with a built in microphone for hands-free talk.
Bluetooth headsets not only cost money, but take a techno-genius to set up (for some people).Last edited: Jun 5, 2017

Actually truckers where headphones because after they're done being abused and go broke from trucking, they're warmed up for their next rewarding career as a DJ.
