Sounds to me like you have found a good job! Before long the new guys will be looking at how fast you load.

When you load 'strips' watch out for loose seats. Back when Avon Lake was Lorain I was loading one of these when the seat slid sideways on the frame, talk about a new perspective!

Banker I have used you as a sounding board for a year or better. I looked at United Road and applied at Cassen before landing here. Cassen was probably my first choice but I am doing well here and the entire office knows you by first name. That's a positive in my book.

Thanks for the advice over the last year or so.

I have received lots of valuable advice on this forum and if I can help you or anyone else, then it was all worthwhile. I am glad you like your new gig. It is nice working for a place small enough to know your name. I see a bunch of your companies rigs daily, but usually going the other way. Wave if you see me.

Tonight was a monthly conference call hosted by Rex Wheeler. First 10 mins of conversation was about the economy turning around based on production rates for the manufacturing of medium duty trucks. This laid out what work was coming up on the horizon in the next month or so. Fairly easy to talk to the whole company when there are only 140 so drivers on a call.

The next 10 mins was spent on what the have decided to change for O/O specs for the trucks they were willing to sign on. With the equipment that we haul they WERE restricting the sleepers and age on equipment they would allow to sign on with a signed commitment of 120 days to have your truck stretched to allow for 120 to 130 inch cab to fifth wheel pin.

With all the work coming in they took the sleeper out to 80" and removed the age restriction to ECM compatable for ELD and DOT inspection/certified. All of this with a $2000 sign on bonus offered for both company and O/O.

I say that to say this. I have been here about 10 weeks now and they are ### deep in work. I am making comparable money to the union car haulers that I talk to. This is the hardest job I have ever done and as a result I have dropped over 30 pounds in 2 months, who the hell needs a gym when you walk 2 to 3 miles a day and throw 100lb ramps with ever load and unload. O/O get all the benifita that company drivers and every one falls into first in first out dispatch, no one care if it's a company truck or owner op.

If you in the market for a jump and want more information hit me up. If you think this guy is selling your typical truckers store then I would encourage you to call Dennis Wheeler and he will talk your ear off but will give you nothing but the facts.

If not interested feel free to go back to your regularly scheduled programming.

    Welcome to Wheeler Trucking!

Do you secure your ramps to the chalks that the front tires set in when loading and unloading? How long does that load take to load and unload?

Yes for the vans that are pictured they are pinned onto the bar that is strapped to the van you are driving onto.

Medium duties are completely different. You place a slide onto the frame, ramps on the drive tires, and drive truck 2 onto the drives of truck 1 and the remove the ramps to continue to pull truck 2 up onto truck 1.

Load and unload varies with manufacturers and will go from 45mins to 3 hours depending on what has to be done to get safely on and off.

    Hope that helps.

Two F750's and the large Isuzu. Isuzu is stacked on the drives of the Ford. Little nerve racking back the one onto the other drives.

If these guys are the real deal (and it seems like they are) this is what I’ve been looking for. Think I’ll be coming aboard in the near future.
