    No, not aftermarket. The steel plates are thinner than the rest of the deck which allow for more wheel clearance which means the trailer can be lower/have a lower second level while still maintaining the ability to put weight on top of the wheel well.

    Otherwise, the trailer would need to ride at least a few inches higher if it were straight regular deck all the way back.

    That's how I understand it anyway.

    No not aftermarket, from the factory. Diamond plate is stronger for the same thickness as there is no support under it. I.e. No cross member.

    @street beater, the rear axle in that particular picture has plenty of clearance probably because if the way it's sitting. Take a look at the front trailer axle.
