Do you need a trailer to take a CDL driving test in North Carolina. I have a tractor but no trailer

I'm pretty sure you do.It wouldn't be no fun taking the test without trailer.

Be pointless to take a CDL test without a trailer. Cause then you're not a combination vehicle

A tractor alone will get you a class B license, but at least no air brake restrictions.
Really the only difference between A and B is A is towing a trailer greater than 10K gwr. You might want to see if there are driving schools in the area you can rent one for the test.

Yes you do, otherwise just the tractor only would be considered a straight truck, the idea is you need to prove you can safely operate and drive a truck with a trailer behind it.

If you go to your local DMV, they should be able to provide you a list of 3rd Party Testing facilities in NC. Some of those will allow you to test using their equipment. I recently did this myself using Trans Tech in Newton, NC.
