    2 cents.
You know it is all very well for the government to tighten up and tighten up but the key is enforcement.
This barrier we are going to pass in December is HUGE. To try and catch everyone who messes up whether deliberately or accidentally is going to take massive manpower and they don't want to pay. Therefore I think this is going to be a giant roulette wheel for several years.
Eventually all weigh stations will be monitoring your logs as you pass under the overhead tracker and it will red light you for a violation.
Until that happens this is a giant game of chance. IF you have to show paperwork and IF the officer cares to microscopically inspect your ELD.
Eventually the march of technology will ensure nobody escapes but I think we have several years before that scifi scenario happens.

The Mega fleets are in DC monthly....Public record that Swift "donated" 14 million to the ATA recently..
As well as all of the other large fleets who keep pumping money to them.

Another thing you may not know is the over 500 pages of new regulations that will be in affect Dec.2019.
One rule being NO personal conveyance just to move the truck.
Thanks to our former POTUS who slid these in under another bill in 2012.The ELDs of today will be completely different come 2019....More millions for the companies who sell the units..

Come 2019 when your 11 is up you stop! Period,On the shoulder, ramps or whatever.
Experienced drivers will be in a rest area or truck stop while many will run to the last minute and just pull over.

Most drivers I have met with admit that they falsify Elogs all the time and the company "gives them" extra hours or deletes a violation.
Logging sleeper while waiting to load is just one example....

Nothing about this is a conspiracy....Trucking will soon change and not for safety.
You know Fed-Ex,UPS and others are already getting exemptions to some of the new rules....Why?
    Money talks!
US Express is trying to get it ruled that the trainer can log sleeper while the trainee with just a Class A learners permit can continue to drive...Yes,Safety is #1..

Of course the 14 non stop clock and no freedom with sleeper split other than 8-2 is a problem.
Right now they are taking suggestions from all drivers on the split sleeper on the FMCSA website..And of course not many are even commenting....just sheep following the herd!

Before you laugh, make fun or judge the acts of others do some research on this subject.
I have been researching this for a long time now and have talked with Congressmen all over the country as well as many DOT officers who are not looking forward to this also.

So if I have to start my truck and move it a little bit to help someone backing in or leaving rather than they tear my hood off... I must restart my break? Makes sense.

I hope productivity is driven into the ground and calamity ensues.

With the new rules the Feds will know....Now whether or not they keep the under so many MPH rule that it does not kick you on duty that is not known...
All of these new regulations for 2019 will be updated, modified and who knows what else by then.

Yes,They sure can until 2019..I have seen it done!
I magically got 2 hours of drive time added to my ELD to get a load of chicken delivered a couple of years ago.
So that puts the company safety guy falsifying a log...

I can only imagine. You wake up at a super crowded truck stop to find out that you are blocked and can't get out. The other guy wouldn't move, cause he is on his 10. You start arguing and then you shoot each other lol

Back then they used AOBRDs, which are not compatible with ELD's, nor are they the same. Most Megas use AOBRD's devices today, but you will see them migrate to ELD's. FMCSA allowed for both to be used, but as trucks are replaced they need to switched to the ELD Technology. This is where UPS, FedEx, and a few others are asking for FMCSA to allow them to continue to use AOBRD's until December 16th 2018. Because the 2 technologies don't play well together, and they do a lot of slip seating, there will be irregularities when a driver starts with one, and switches to a truck that has the other. UPS and FedEx want to issue every driver an individual ELD, that is compatible with their delivery and tracking system. Problem they have, no one had one, so they had to deign it from the ground up, and get it certified before they can test it. Both have said if their testing goes well they should be off the AOBRD devices and on their version of the ELD by mid next year, but asked for the additional time in case it is needed.

Right now about everyone is on an AOBRD...so they get 2 extra years.
But do you see how this is going to play out?
They will pump out new systems for every truck on the road and make millions!..
It was played to all be for SAFETY...BS! ,Money, money, money!

It boils down to if the government is going to track EVERY driver then we need to be hourly pay and considered Skilled labor and get overtime and every other benefit...OH,plus I want my free government benefits, insurance, ect being I will then be a government employee!

I think carriers within the top 5% like the company I drive for and many small outfits,owner-ops and anyone with a good DOT rating should be left alone instead of stuff rammed down our throats.

I'm surprised about Trump afterall he has a good friend that owns a trucking company. But then again ATA probably endorsed him while on the campaign trail.

Oh,I bet they did! Remember the pics of him sitting in a big truck?....
I'm not expecting Trump to be a big help unless enough problems arise with this mandate and the FMCSA.
