A couple weeks ago, I accepted a position with Wil-Trans under Wilson Logistics for paid CDL training. Completed my first week, got my permit and some backing and shifting training among other training, and then hit the road with a trainer to get real world driving experience. It was by far the funnest coolest thing I've ever done, and there's nothing more in this world that I want more than to be a professional driver.

Now here's the thing: there was an accident that I was in back in February in a sedan. I was driving home from work around 9pm and I was driving behind a guy driving a pickup truck with a small trailer with a UTV side by side on it. The trailer lights were lit, but did not indicate any kind of braking when he did hit his brakes. I noticed this early on, so kept my distance. As we were driving along a moderately sharp curve, the driver slammed on his brakes (of which I did not realize) about the same time I glanced down to check my gauges. It was only like half a second, but by the time I looked back up, I was a couple feet from him, doing 55, and he was almost stopped. The collision caused him to swerve over and hit the guard rail on the opposite side of the road, resulting in the trailer and ATV to flip over.
The guy got out, looked around, saw the damage done, them immediately started holding his back/neck. He would not speak to me when I asked if everyone was alright, he only asked other bystanders to contact the police.
I told the police on scene what had happened to the best of my knowledge and our vehicles were towed away, and he was taken away in an ambulance. I signed the waiver stating I was not hurt, etc. Nothing really came of this, no court summons, or anything like that, no one sued, etc. This was not my vehicle that was wrecked, it was my then room mates (who is understanding of everything) so the car and insurance were not in my name. So, prior to applying with Wil-Trans, I checked with my DMV, to see if that wreck was on my MRV, and they told me it was not, and I could simply not include that accident on my application. A few days ago, the company somehow found it, and had the trainer I was with take me home. In the meantime, I've been applying with companies that can help me get my CDL with the contract while also disclosing this accident so it won't be an issue. Thing is, so far every company has declined me. I got the actual police report, and it does not mention the brake lights not working, and it labeled the cause as inatention on my part. I don't think this is at all fair, and it's preventing me from following my dream of being a professional driver

My question is: does anyone know of a company that may be willing to hire me despite the accident, or is there anyway I can safely get this off of my MRV and not tell companies about it? And I don't mean that in a sketchy way, I mean something like a defensive driving course or something of the like, or perhaps any way to legally have the report reworded, or something like that so it isn't basically stating it was all my fault, and to get the brake lights issue included on there, and the inattention off? Anything that may help me achieve my goal in becoming a professional driver. Note that I already have my permit and med card, and a bit if training and experience already, if anyone thanks that may help me at all. Any help is appreciated and sorry for typing so much haha.

With an accident or speeding ticket or felony on record the truck companies that have own driving schools they wont touch you.
Must pay for own school and then they may hire you.
(I went to trucking school on 3 occasions in my life. 1st time was a loan that truck companies reimbursed me for. 2nd and 3rd time in truck school was grants that I didn't have to pay back. Both in Florida.)

Which state do you live in?
Since you've already been through cdl school with Wil-Trans, but don't have the cdl yet, you can probably pass the cdl test at your local DMV. Google search can probably find a company or private individual that will go with you to the DMV to get the hard copy CDL. If you do this, there are companies that will hire you.
Another way is to go through the state for free cdl school and start over. Google : "WIOA Program (your state name) and apply for that. If approved, they will want a "pre-hire" from some trucking company, to make sure you can be employed by a trucking company, before they spend tax payer dollars on the school. Carolina Cargo will probably give the pre-hire letter if you go this route.
If you can get the cash or loan, attend a private cdl school to get the cdl, then your hirable somewhere.
Sygma Network hires drivers with only a cdl permit and the rest is on-the-job training. Slim chance they'll hire you with that rear end wreck, but worth doing the online application.

I think this guy might be from Ontario by some of the names he mentioned. And being ticketed for inattention on his part might actually be Careless driving. In Ont thats a bad ticket to get. Its 6 points and almost the kiss of death to a new driver. They have a nasty habit of charging the following driver of careless if they rear end someone regardless of extenuating circumstances. Then you have to fight to get it reduced in court. I think its one of the worst tickets to get in Ont as a commercial driver.

    Chinatown Thanks this.

Yeah, but I was never actually ticketed, that's just the verbiage used on the police report. And this was prior to me considering trucking as a career, so my thoughts on this is that I wasn't a "professional driver" at this point, nor had that training. But I do understand that the biggest issue is the paperwork and how it looks to the insurance company.

At 55 mph you were traveling about 80 ft per second. If you only glanced away for a half of a second and hit the guy you were roughly 40'ft behind the guy. Too close for that speed especially knowing the guy had no working lights.

My advice is to stop trying to avoid blame. Own your mistake. Disclose it to potential employers at let them know you learned from your mistake. You'll have a better chance landing a gig than playing the "it's not my fault" game.

I had a accident back in March 2016. Driver of the car was sitting in middle of a rainstorm on the road car off, lights off and no emergency lights. When I did see him cars were beside me and had to slam on the brakes. The truck skid and I managed to avoid rear ending him and a very minor side swipe happened.

The ####### went and told the insurance that I rear ended him and that was recorded on my file.... officer did not charge me with a careless rather got charged with a improper lane change.

I have court in October and maybe than we can get this #### all sorted out.

Have you pulled your HireRite Report, aka DAC to see what is on it? I will bet there are some less than stellar codes on it, you need to know for sure.
Just my 2 cents, you omitted the accident when Wil-Trans hired you, you are not taking responsibility for the accident, there were injuries, so it is not as minor as you are thinking it is. 99% of all rearend accidents will be seen as at-fault by the driver who hits the other vehicle from the rear. Suck it up, put on your big bot panties, take responsibility, don't try and mitigate it as you did here, or the severity of the accident. Once you get past that, if they are still listening your next hurdle is getting past why you didn't write it down on your application, or tell Wil-Trans about it. The later makes you look dishonest to potential employers. Does not matter the state was slow putting it on your MVR, you didn't write it down or check the yes box. Potential employers will look at it and wonder what else you are omitting.
My advice, be honest and upfront, take ownership of the accident, admit you didn't put it on the application, tell them it wasn't on my MVR, and I wanted the job, so I left it off. Someone will hire you, you just won't be able to be picky about who it is.
