Are load board prices after or before broker fees?

I see loadboards sometimes post what the load pays, but has the broker fee already been applied?

If there are broker fees, such as quick pay or advance fees, it is deducted from that amount.

That's what you get after the broker takes their share. And FYI, that's just a suggestion, I rarely move the load at their posted rate. They post what they think they can move the loads at and adjust from there. In my area, if a load is posted for $500, I can usually get $600-700 for it. $1000 loads I can usually get for $1200-$1500. Obviously this doesn't happen every time and it depends on the market and how desperate the broker is to get it moved. My best increase was going from $4000 to $6500 on an 1800 mile load. It weighed a little over 50k so I knew the broker's options were very limited. I talked to him throughout the day and he was sure he could move it at 4k but didn't find anyone else so he gave it to me for $6500 at the end.

If you are using a broker company, then the load board is before the fee

I have a contract driver griping about the broker fee deduction and threatening to take us to small claims court. Can he win? We charge all contract drivers the same fee and he is no exception to the rule.

No, the broker fee is applied after the load is done and the company has been invoiced. The BF will then apply to your invoice for the work done

Is it anywhere in the contract you have with the driver?
If so you'll win, if not probably not.

What’s a broker fee? I thought brokers make their money by booking a load for X amount and then finding a truck to move it for Y amount and they keep what’s between the two amounts?

    Coffey and 86scotty Thank this.
