You can generally talk on the phone a little and/or online to get it out of your system. Most drivers just want to complain and tell sob stories about how their company sucks or being broke so I avoid truck stop banter

 

Take up creative writing as a hobby and those #### characters won't stop chattering inside your head. OK, maybe that's the crazy talking......

 

Im an extrovert. Im an alpha male. I also don't need constant people and social activity around me. During my OTR year so far I found I enjoy my own music selections, my talk radio stations, seeing new places, tackling new challenges just fine. Like others have said, you can chat on your Bluetooth device.

 

After sitting behind the wheel all day (or night long) then sitting at the truck stop counter, you will talk/speak to anyone within earshot.
Strangers are "non-drivers" on the road.
MANY is the time that a 4 or 6 table discussion has been going on in the drivers' area of the truck stop eatery.

 

Extroverts generally make theirselves the center of attention

in break rooms or driver meetings , etc

.... solitude is not their friend

 

Ok I will explain myself. Im an extrovert. Type A personality. This is a fact and I've known it since I was teenage. Ive done many things that most people wouldn't believe.

So, I love the change that OTR has brought. Its a relief to get out of the rat race. Get away from too much heat and drama. I originally thought I would be miserable and I'm not. I looked at it as just a temporary task to get thru. But I love it now.

My past social scene involved music scene, shows, bars, gatherings, street fights, acts of revenge, friend-squabbling, entertaining out-of-towers, making both friends and enemies in my large city and extended acquaintances, maintaining my reputation for always being a solid bro. Ive always been confident and socially adventurous. I owned my own small business for over 10 years and hired dozens of people from my own demograph.

By the time I left that life, left town, and changed careers, I was tired of it all. Trucking and OTR was a needed break. Now a year later I still enjoy it. I am still ####y, confident, and outwardly opinionated. But somehow I enjoy that nobody knows me now. The country is huge and I am seeing it all finally.
