So, this will probably sound kind of strange, but I'm getting ready to finish up my bachelor's in Criminal Justice with ASU. My ultimate goal is being a Law Enforcement Ranger with the National Park Service. They require a lot of seasonal work though first to be considered for a full time position. So I'd be unemployed most likely during the off season (August through April most likely). I've considered alot of options and trucking is one of them. But I'm more interested in jobs that would keep me in Arizona. The long distances and being away from family doesn't appeal that much to me, plus the potential unhealthy side of it all as well. Does anyone have any experience with work that keeps youn in one state? I know my local community college, GCC, offers a trucking program I could take along with the EMT course I'll need for the park ranger job. Any info or opinions are greatly appreciated. If I didn't explain anything enough just let me know. Thanks!

Once you get in the driver's seat and realize how much money you can make after one year, you'll probably stay put :)

If you were to go back and read my first posts on this website, you'll see that I went from not being able to shift the truck or find work, to hauling fuel and making upper middle-class money. $60k a year is easy after a year of experience. If you find a good hourly job, you can push $80k, and be home every night. I've never spent a night on the road.

Wow! This is surprising to read, and gives me more hope for sure! When you say an hourly job and home every night, what type of job(s) does that entail?

I started my carrier with Halliburton. Fracking and acidizing. Hazmat and tanker endorsements open up more choices of employment. My first year grossed 45K. Second year hauling crude oil it jumped to 55K!. All local work. And it's been on the up and up ever since. Good luck! You will be just fine!

    This is true!
Attend cdl school and get all the endorsements. There's some decent companies that can keep you close to home or short runs to bordering states.
Old Dominion Freight Lines - line haul jobs or city jobs.
Mountain Valley Express - may have opening in Phoenix.
Eagle KMC Transportation - tanker jobs in Phoenix & home every day.
McLane Foodservice - probably make $70K
Plenty of milk tanker jobs once you get a few months experience.

It amazes me; attend a 4 week school and make more money than a university graduate.
