I've worked for companies who stole from drivers before so I got in the habit of putting every single load on a spreadsheet. This is my spreadsheet from 2016.

I drove National Fleet OTR (min 3 weeks out). Ended up driving 345 days that year and this spreadsheet covers each and every load. Notice how detention is less than one in ten loads.

I'm on track to make 75K in my first year with Shaffer / Crete. And I run reefer, not dry box. I'm taking home more than 1000 per week, claiming two dependents, paying insurance for myself, and NOT having a Per Diem pretax deduction. (Per Diem pretax deduction screws up my mortgage deduction.)

I do bust my butt though.

You realize little Tonny is an active member of the ATA and wants you to log every minute at a shipper or receiver, your planning and scaling and waiting for a load offer on Line 4?

Yes, it will. ESPECIALLY in short loads, or loads with more than two stops.

One of my last loads with Stevens Transport had me make four drops in the LA area over three days, and I got 1 mile per drop after the first + $35 per drop after the first. One of my least favorite loads ever. Three days stuck in LA, and I made $105 in drop fees + three miles ($0.93.)

Longer loads with one pick and one drop aren't so bad for zip code miles, but watch out for shorter or multi-stop loads.

I used to edit the #### out of my logs man. I *maximized* every minute I had! Don't know how you're pulling $75K doing reefer as, from my experience, they are 80% live load where dry van @ Crete was about 20% but I take you at your word. Good on you. My new company doesn't even let me edit my logs!

I love Crete...been at 5 different companies and Crete is head and shoulders above the others. Also, the practical miles paid adds about 2 cents to the bottom line vs. other companies, so 49 cents at Crete is like 51 cents paid at other companies. I stay out about 45 days, take about 4 days home time, and average $1200-1300 gross per week. (And to China: I cannot stand the fumes from the APUs, they come right into my truck windows from those ground level exhaust pipes. I open my windows when it is nice outside, and those APUs are running all the time, no matter what, it seems.)
