They aren't a team company. They are a training company. As soon as you finish training (usually around 6 weeks) you go solo. They do have some teams, but mostly husband/wife. They actually discourage team operation if you aren't married.

With him being reefer, there's a good chance he may have been tired from his schedule possibly being all over the place.
He may just dozed off. It happens a ton out between midland and Abilene, TX. Seems like every week there's trucks on a hillside, flipped

I work for Stevens still on the same dedicated fleet that he was on. We don’t have forward or rear facing cameras (yet). Driver was extremely tired and fell asleep. My inside track in the safety department said that he took a bunch of cat naps before it happened. Our fleet tends to have tight deadlines on loads and he was pushing to get it to the receiver on time. Be that as it may, Stevens has a hyper aggressive safety department that trumps all other departments in the company. All he had to do was call in and let them know he’s tired and can’t go any further. No questions asked and no negative consequences.

There's a hint for all drivers , don't let that ELD or 14 hour clock kill you , if your tired for any reason and there could be many , get some sleep , hate to hear this happening

It’s definitelt sad. I added to my comment about Steven’s safety department and that all he had to do was call in and let them know he’s stopping for the night. ELDs suck but I don’t mess around with fatigue.

And on the flip side, just because you have loose paper logs, you don’t have to drive 1,400 miles every day.

1400 miles a day everyday , no one ever did that .
Why does everything revert back to the same old saw.
    Ok I'll go there
If he didn't have an ELD he could have taken a nap and fudged his log book , you feel better now , the driver died so some imaginary driver couldn't drive 1400 miles a day everyday

    Blackshack46 Thanks this.

Falling asleep is such a danger. I nearly went of a PA Bridge once. 3pm, sunny day, hot, road and heat hypnotized me. That was 30 years ago, today I still have trouble staying awake between 3 and 4 in the afternoon.
