    >>>I did mention. Before that Smart truck was one of the 4 I have tried and in a lot of ways I did like it.
But I wanted something more standalone as I had to many things running on my tablet.
But I may try running smart truck side by side with RM and see how they compare for a month.
I'll pay the $9.99 to compare.

FYI - 510/520/710/720 the newest maps are released.. Make sure you use a 8gb or 16gb SD Card. Class 4,6,8 or 10 will work. Make sure you have a "C" around the class of the card. If you have a "U" then it will not work.

    Thanks,
    Mark

OK,,, just to bring up a few small points... The TNDT 70/80/80B along with the TND-740 and the OverDryve 8 Pro are Android devices.

The TND-740 device is locked down, meaning all updates have to come from Rand McNally. On the other devices you can move the APK's into a download folder and install from there.

    1. They do not use the Rand Dock for updates.
    2. They get all updates via a HotSpot which you provide.
    3. The Rand Dock will not accept them as a connected device.
    4. When doing Map Updates it is STRONGLY suggested you have a High Speed Connection for your Internet.
    5. If you run into issues doing Map Updates do not attempt to correct the issue yourself unless you have been given instructions on what to do. The process is not hard.
    6. If you connect your device (listed above) to a computer and if the computer "wants" to repair your device because it says it has an issue, DO NOT, DO NOT, let the computer "repair" your device. This does not fix any issues.

The process is simple, you open up hidden files and folders, delete a certain .txt file, then check for updates again.

The Factory Reset will not "correct" your map issues, it will take your Toll, TND GPS, RM Services, and RM Launcher back to a version the device was flashed with. This means your software will be on older versions again. You will have to delete the .txt file again and check for updates... again on a High Speed Connection.

If you did the "repair" of the device under the RM Launcher and you got 86-88 invalid files, this was the .jpgs for the MCRA. This was updated a few weeks ago so you should not see this again.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I already have an 8gb class 10 with the old updates on it for my 720...
Do i need a different chip now and would you recommend a 16 over an 8

Either works... This was to reinforce the type of SD Card one should have for the x10/x20 models.

What will happen if you use a 16gb HC SD card or higher GB SD Card... HC meaning the class has a "U" around the speed and usually the face is red/white.

The Dock will copy the Map files to the SD Card.
You will not know it, but at least five DCA's (map files) will be corrupt.
You will do a Diagnostic/Repair from the Dock on the TND x10/x20
The Dock will not recognize the SD Card format and will rebuild a NaviMaps folder on the internal storage of the x10/x20 placing about 4-5 files in the folder.

Overall you will get terrible routing if it routes at all since the x10/x20 hardware cannot read the formatting of the HC SD Card.

    Thanks,
    Mark

@Mark Kling How can I force my 730 to re-download the latest maps? I still think when the d/l was interrupted last time it has affected my unit somehow.

Start a conversation with me. I have to have you delete what you have in NaviMaps and insert a file there that I have to send you... the Dock will "think" you need the map download again.

    Thanks,
    Mark
