I would guess planning has a bigger role in the timing than dispatch.

Yes it was assigned to you by your DM. But, the timing of the run was originated by the customer and possibly adjusted by planning and sent to your DM. Planning in bigger companies will plan you on the load, your DM just sends you the info.

I say that's enough of that. Driver has to be trained to plan a run properly to meet appointment times against everything about the trip.

For example. Dispatcher asks me can I get into freehold new jersey by 10 tonight? In the face of a rush hour that gridlocks the NJT? Hell no.

But I can cross the GWB and get into Connecticut long before 9PM hows that work out? Boom, Connecticut it is.

Agreed. This is also forced dispatch.I have witnessed cases at this company after the driver has refused just a single load he was fired for it.

So what would be your suggestion here for a driver,What would be the options if there are any in your perspective?

    Im not just suggesting.

Im actually coming out of the side box and absolute advocate a industry wide change and train drivers to understand THEY trip plan a run given to them and THEY set a appointment they can keep from that MOMENT they recieve whatever dispatch load information.

Not shippers, not recievers, Not walmart, Not brokers, not sales not no no. Only the driver gets to understand the appointment time that is lawful and not a minute before. That driver will absolutely have to keep it, with proper planning of everything involved for that trip it should work out for everyone. However there is also a fail safe option to call dispatcher to arrange a later date and time for appointments.

Some drivers are not smart enough to trip plan and perhaps dispatch has to spoon feed them. Im smart arent I? Hmm.

Same to you. However until I see that Enternal Morning and forget my cares, I have to have a care. Ive had a good go but like all of us it's not pure driven snow.

Im finished with the thread, no problems at all. I appreciate all of you.

I will say one last thing about appointments. We stopped by a McDonalds earlier today and found a McDonalds life gate truck manned by the two drivers, day cab, reefer, two staff workers Its 5 PM. They had some how managed to stack 8 foot wide (Two pallets wide) and about 16 foot deep, 7 foot high which is about that height you can lift a box. Mostly frozen burger meat.

I used to flip and cook very well, that burger meat in that particular location in a dark time long ago while spouse took care of the fries. That meat came from a Facility in Oklahoma City. I used to deliver reefer frozen burger patties to that facility. I will assure all of you that Oklahoma City's McDonalds Distribution, processing facility was quite secure. So I pretty much had the pleasure of participating and knowing the enitre McDonalds system.

What bothered me was It's gaining on 5PM, Day Cab is humming, Reefer is on green at the corner 1/3 fuel remaining and still just about around maybe 6 hours to Oklahoma City for presumptive home if that eating place is the last stop of day. I recall in my work days there, we never took a big truck after 6. The two crew were not working too fast, it's already pretty warm and they really needed to get a move on with getting that stuff under protection, what ever it is.

If anything good at all, that truck was parked pretty. It makes a joyful in the heart to see it.
