I am a fresh CDL graduate. I am considering working for Crete OTR to get my experience and maybe stay longer if things work out.
I realize everyone will have different opinions, working for any company will surely have its ups and down moments. I know a dispatchers load planning will not always be to my liking, I know I wont be able to have my way. I assume I will have to take some good with some bad. I assume I will have some shippers and receivers I like more than others. These things (and others like it) are to be expected to some degree. I am sure some truck drivers will complain more than others, while some truck drivers will have nothing but positive things to say.
So I would like to know what are you thoughts on Crete good or bad it don't matter. I want to hear from everyone.
Is Crete a decent company to work OTR for?
Examples are:
1. I am mostly interested in knowing do they treat employees with respect? I know they want to work their drivers hard. I expect this, however some companies go out of their way to exploit their workers.
2. I want to know do they cut corners or deal with issues in a sensible manner?
For example if the truck needs a repair will they duck and dodge the issue or will it be handled in a prompt manner?
I am just wanting to get a feel from others about Crete.
Thank you for any replies.

If I remember right here are several companies.
Crete.
Sunflower.
Schaffer.
And one other I cannot recall right now.
ALL of these are under the same owner. There was a Federal Action that caused these three or four companies to be broken up and assigned new brand names to stay in business. I think this was back in the regulated days prior to deregulation.
I simply do not know enough about them to proceed further. I found them to be reasonably competant running with them on the roads in my time. But I don't again know currently how they are doing. -

I have been with Crete 9 months now.Its my first OTR,and looks like my only.Unless something stupid happens. As long as you are making money with "Their" equipment, they pretty much leave you alone.I haven't even talked to my Terminal Manager yet.
Mike2633 Thanks this. -
Hunt Transportation is the flatbed company. Schaeffer is the reefer company. Crete is the van company.
Astoh, Joab Rynere, x1Heavy and 1 other person Thank this. -
Maybe he was dylxesic.
I just made up the "yx" numbers because I didn't want to give away his truck number. The last 2 numbers were really 35. But don't tell anyone -
You could do a whole lot worse than Crete. I'm sure they've got some bad reviews from more entitled drivers, maybe even some from seasoned veterans who maybe didn't get a fair shake, but Crete is a solid company to drive for from what I understand from here and other places .

There was once a company called HTL, I think that was the name at least (and I don't mean the HTL as in Honey Transport or Hickory Transport)...they were the origional O/O division. I was told that it was run by Duane's daughter(s)...but it disappeared and each division now has O/O's. You may still see an old HTL logo on a truck now and then, but it's been years since I have seen one.
