In most cases model year and built year are the same.

i think none should be required, the year cut off was so that they could make the cost analysis show less of a burden to the affected company's so they could get the law to pass. by making exemptions was only so they could skew the numbers in there favor to get the law passes threw.

Not to further confuse this. To clarify, it will go off the stickers? Not the last 6 digit numbers on the block? I have not found the numbers on the block but freightliner assures me they are there. If so i see those stickers becomming valuable.

It is common for the engine build date to be the year previous to the truck build date.

I was referred to Clarke Power here local as they service the Detroit engines. Our local Freightliner could not give me information off engine serial. They referred me over.

Just a thought, if I have a DD made say in 1995, with a DDECIII on it, can I upgrade that to a DDEC IV?

I called Detroit customer service as well as the local Freighter dealer. They could not do me any good on finding the original number of the engine.

Finally I called Detroit Reman East where the engine was rebuilt and talked to the guy in the warranty department.
I gave him the reman serial number and he was able to look up the original serial number of the engine and the manufacture date. No one else had been able to do that.
He sent me an email with company markings stating that reman engine serial number xxxxxxx was built using engine serial number xxxxxxx which was originally manufactured on xx/xx/xxxx.
He was the only person I found that had the information.
Again this was at Detroit Reman East where they rebuilt the engine.
The only markings on the engine now are what they put on after remanufacturing it.

I am carrying a copy of the email in the truck for DOT. I'll have to wait and see how that goes over.
