    Hello all,

I am extremely nervous and I am joining the PSD program. I was previously with another company to get my CDL and I was dropped because I was nervous, (come to find out 4 people left in 3 weeks because they felt uncomfortable driving) and I do NOT want it to happen again. My state of residence is NY but I had to switch my license over to MO because it was required and I also have my CDL permit without the Tanker Endorsement (I am going to need to get it). I indicated this on my application but will I have a problem when I arrive in Springfield? I am extremely worried that this is going to happen again. I have my DoT Medical Card (for 2 years) and I don't do drugs so I don't have to worry about that.

I am taking the Greyhound in on Saturday and should be getting there by Sunday night. Do people just get randomly removed from the program because they are nervous at Prime? I've never driven a manual and never have driven such a big truck. I was mostly nervous at the other company because of the lack of experience behind the wheel. I had 2 hours behind the wheel if that and they wanted me on the road by Friday (which was two days later).

I am just trying to get some insight on what I should expect and should I be worried? I feel like the other company ruined my confidence and I really, really want to succeed in this field. I am not the person to slack so when it actually happened I was just blown away.

Yes, some people are a "bundle of nerves" and some are "cool as a cucumber" as they say. So, if you're the nervous type, you might be OK in this biz. You would just be a nervous truck driver. Or, you might be so nervous, you won't be able to "cut the mustard" in this biz. Give it your best shot and remember, if your nerves are interfering with your daily duties, it's probably not for you.

I'm not obnoxiously nervous that it will effect my driving. I just like to ask questions and such to make sure I'm doing it the correct way. Should I be worried of failing out of Prime?

no if you can drive half way decent youll be ok the nervousness will fade just always remember you drive a big vehicle and it can do damage and the fastest person dosent always win and if you ever struggle like backing or getting stuck or lost pull over and take a break 10 min of just not doing anything and clearing your head can do wonders

You'll do fine, will have to retake the physical and new med card per primes requirement but they like it when you ask questions, I know for a fact I tell my students that there's no such thing as a stupid question and other instructors are the same way. encourage any new hire to ask questions as they won't learn unless they do.

    @Broshears was with us before.

Started with us in the beginning. Left for awhile & grabbed a local gig. Things changed w/company & he came back.

The fact that he came back to us, & additionally became an instructor/trainer, should be an indication to you of what things are like.

@redoctober83 started elsewhere. Came to us later on. Left after awhile & had his own adventures elsewhere for a time. He also came back, to some degree, albeit under his own authority as true O/O running his own truck under his own authority on the advanced fleet. (He can run loads outside company, if he wants, due to having own authority). Also, running some other true O/O's under him & his authority here.

Just those two situations alone should speak volumes to you, as far as what you're dealing with here. Could mention several more, but they are the most active here currently on forum.

It will be what you make of it. Take it as far as you want, as far as what you want to do. Get your training & experience down. Get a clean & safe track record developed & all kinds of opportunities will open up to you.

Best of luck to you, bud. You will definately not be the first "Nervous Nellie" I've seen come through & be successful. Hell, you got one talking to you right now. To me, just shows you are conscientiously trying to be the best you can.

Everything will come in due time, if you have the attitude & diligence to stick it out.

Oh yeah....to address your question of being randomly bounced. Ain't gonna happen here. You will only get bounced for an real apparent reason. Just does not come out of the blue. Even if you are having a bit of tough time getting initial skills down for testing, you will be worked with for awhile....as long as you have the right attitude & ambition. You WILL have a fighting chance.

Can attest to a few I have had, & many others have had......when guys were struggling. I have, on occasion, put in much more additional time with someone struggling just because of their stellar attitude & determination. Attitude means EVERYTHING out here.

Most extreme example....... one of the slowest guys I had stuck w/me over 7mos. Guess what......he's at the absolute top of his fleet in both on time delivery, miles run, fuel milage & all other stats.

You'll do just fine here, if you just realize it will be what YOU make of it.

Wishing you the best in all you do. Opportunity awaits you. Make it count, eh....?

    Peace :biggrin_25525:
