Tmc docks your pay if the truck is dirty or your tarp isn't perfectly straight.

I think it says something about the company that you rarely see them dirty or disordered but sloppy/inadequate securement is something that isn't hard to find. Same goes with maintenance, a lot of the drivers seem more concerned with making sure everything is shiny than making sure their lights and brakes work properly.

That says something about a company.

Mucho gracias ! Exactly the sort of info I was looking for. My wife has a cousin who's been hauling reefer for over 20 years up and down the west coast. I hit him up regularly with questions but he doesn't know a whole lot about flatbed companies.

So who are the major accounts Melton services ? Or in general, what type of materials are they predominantly hauling ?

General fb freight. They don't focus on dedicated accounts. Irregular route means they pick up the inconsistent stuff for the most part. They've got steady customers like AK steel, johns mansfield, etc but primarily they focus on spot freight.

I've hauled and my friends have hauled for them anything that'll fit on an open deck really. industrial A/C units, generators, electrical transformers, any kind of steel you could imagine, buckets of glue, lumber, a giant basketball goal, pipe, tractors, bobcats, general machinery, insulation, roofing, loads of hay to Amish farms out in the middle of nowhere etc...

They pull a good variety of things. One of the best friends I made working there was sent into Florida all the time with really strange loads. Florida is an odd place anyway but what he took there would make you laugh sometimes. That's where the giant basketball goal went of course as well as some 4'x4' box that was probably about 8 feet tall. I can't remember what was in it but I remember how goofy it looked upright in the center of a 53' flat lol

That they care more about looking good than being good at what they do. That they care more about appearances than safety.

Hauling for them sounds likeca hoot. I've often thought if I could go to a different shipper/receiver every load, that would be great. Obviously that isn't realistic, but the idea of varying types of freight sounds really interesting.

Remember, I'm not getting into this for the money, home time or an easy job. More than anything I want an adventure.
