Go to TA and get the inexpensive Rand 730. Its the cheapest smallest one with lifetime maps (free updates). Its about $230. Can get it on Amazon too. I love mine.

I have RM TND 530 that locks up or keeps repeating the next turn when the unit gets hot from direct sunlight. I have considered switching to a DEZL because it says it has free traffic. Those using the Garmin, does the DEZL have free traffic, and if it does, how accurate is the traffic reports?

I've had a RM 530 for a year and have not had a problem other then it doesn't like going around cities, it also comes with lifetime updates and maps.

I had the RM TND 540 for two years. My first TND didn't work out of the box, the second lasted six months and froze in the middle of navigation. The third died about two weeks ago when it showed the blue screen of death. Before it died, it would get hot from the sun and begin repeating directions to the next turn, over and over again. Once it died completely, I decided to buy a Garmin.

I purchased the Garmin DEZL LMTHD 570 this week and it worked right out of the box. The screen self adjusts to the light (brighter during the day, dimmer at night), it has voice commands, traffic updates, Bluetooth pairing for hands free calling. You can change your trailer and truck profile to match your load quickly and easily, which I like because I pull a flat and often have OSOD loads. The only down side I see is that it sometimes will only give you one route option, but that I can live with. So far very happy with the Garmin and it is on sale at the truck stops for $50 off retail price.

I use Garmin Dezl 770 also. Had mine for about 2 years. No problem except trying to update. You need a computer to update maps and software. My gps is about a year behind on updates. Only caused a couple problems.
I love my Garmin. Its saved me many times.

    Rand McNally 7 inch.

They are now releasing one set up for elogs if you want to go that route. Can't remember the new model name but I had a demo done and it seemed really nice.

Leaning towards Rand McNally for elogs when the time comes. :[

Might aswell buy that one now so you don't have to make another purchase in a few months.

They've had an elog machine for a few years now. I got the pleasure of using it for 4 months. It was my only time spent on elogs.

I currently use Co-Pilot on a phone that is connected to any network. No, the signal strength nor the carrier's network matter at all. After the initial install, using Co-Pilot uses NO data. If/when you want to update the maps (for free), then get on a WiFi network, update them, and keep going. No data used on your phone.

I have not tried it in Airplane mode but will do so today, just to see if it works.

Big Herb The Trucker Thanks this.
