I am the same way. Some weeks I average 30% empty. Some of that is coming home on Fridays. I make the loaded miles count though, I would rather be loaded 60% of the time with good rates than 95% of the time with cheap heavy crap.....
Sit or bounce?

However, in the last month I have been to the DFW area twice. 5.20 per mile on, one, 4.33 on the second going out there. I said what the heck, I'm gone. First trip I came out of Dallas for 2.55 on 520 miles. Next trip came out of Irving for 2.66 on 710 miles. Dry van loads.
I'm scared to go back...... I asked the wife if she had a rabbits foot in her purse....blairandgretchen, Lepton1, izifaddag and 1 other person Thank this. -
Anyhow I think Texas is a black hole too. Cheap freight and not a big selection.
Once I get out of here I won't return for a long time. Think I want to stay in the middle of the country mainly in the north.
Once I have the finishing touches to my authority this will get a tad easier I think. At least I won't be giving away 18% for load finding. -
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.

No they were legal log loads. Both were "I'm in a bind " loads going out that I took advantage of. I can get 3.00 mile loads going to DFW, I have always avoided them due to crap rates coming out.

There is also the stand your ground factor. I will not pull somebodies cheap F BS freight for pennies. And I'd like to seriously walk up and just punch the dude for even posting it.
I'll DH 1500 miles before I'll do that.
I'm being loaded right now.
Here's how I got here.
Excellent load out of the house ( excellent for me, I'm sure a lot of guys wouldn't even pull it ). Make like $2300 on it after LS cut, and fuel, 1350 miles. It never hits the board, agent calls me direct. Takes 2-1/2 days. Emptied last Monday.
Load back not available until this Monday. ( One that pays that is.)
SO
DH about 200 miles P/U load that pays a truck load of cash going the opposite direction I want to go. 500 miles total $2800. Takes 3 days / 8 stops / NOWHERE to park so eat $100 motel room for one night, when even I at my craftiest can't find a place to park. Emptied yesterday.
DH 45 miles getting loaded as I type. This will pay like $450 after LS, heaviest cheapest load I've done for them goes 240 miles, empties 30 miles from my good P/U to the house, and near a major truck stop.
Now two things about this load.
A) It picked up today. It empties tomorrow.
B) I'm going that way anyway, and can't get loaded until Monday.
Better stuff loaded yesterday, BUT with WTF traffic, would I have made it for the P/U? And if I didn't, now things AFU, just for a filler load.
SO
If this wasn't available I'd just D/H the 250 for my good load, and sat for the weekend, and fooled with the truck.
Week in the life of Dave.
Going to a no freight zone. Need top digits, cause you probably gone drive back out empty.
I see guys go to Alaska for $3 mile. F that. Most drive all the way back MT.
Now I have seen loads go there for $5 mile. I'd probably do that.Last edited: Aug 19, 2017

Bounce. In the name of God and all that's Holy, bounce. Setting around is for the birds. Eat the fuel and go where the freight is.

Be a different story on a Monday. It is what I have been doing lately - too darn much.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.
