Ya know what, I bet ya think having to come back empty for 800 miles sucks for ya because of your only getting 42 cpm but I honestly would not mind. It's still not bad pay and boy that long pull with the empty would be very comfortable and relaxing. I wouldn't have no problem at all comin back empty. I slowed down a good bit I guess u can say. My first year I was all about running hard and trying make as much money as possible. Now I've realized in trucking for me it's better to just roll with the flow and the pay will come no matter what. With orange I don't pull empty very far, every now and then I do a 400 mile pull and I love it

The only time that empty sucks is in the snow. Much easier to get stuck with no weight on the drives.

If I could go work Monday morning and go get loaded and drive it 1000 miles, unload it and come back empty 1000 miles and park till next Monday I would do this till I retired. Be only 1k week but get home Thursday nite with 3 days off every week. That would be perfect for me. Mainly cause I retired from military I guess. Making only 45k or so a year with a lot home time is my dream tanker gig.

    lagging Thanks this.

My first winter in trucking I learned how empty sucks bad. They had me running 80 from Salt Lake City all way over to Keasby nj, doing loads all in between of course. I did this few times and since winter haven't ever even came close to going out their. On 80 in Wyoming trucks and cars were wrecked everywhere and I was still a super new driver riding in basically ice sheet. I was scared to absolute death. I'm not kidding, I was terrified. I couldn't stop my tractor with out my trailer sliding off the side of i80 because I was empty. A driver on radio said schneider use your hand brake. lol I'm still looking for a hand brake in my truck still today. I have no idea where she is

Wyoming is the worse. The use sand instead of salt on the roads. It can be a half inch sheet of ice until you hit the Utah line and it miraculously clears up.

Yea I was only doing runs way out their because I was new driver and I was staying out up to 6-8 weeks at a time to get the experience as fast as I could. Now I don't stay out past 12 days anymore, my truck beats the crap out my neck and I need a break

There is no hand brake in the schneider trucks. I asked during training, and they said that all new drivers would end up in a ditch.

My husband has a phone interview today with Schneider Bulk. He's been driving since the end of 2004, so almost 13 years, and has about 6 years of tanker experience, hauling flowback water in PA for the oilfields, crude oil up in North Dakota, also for the oilfields, and currently hauling waste water and grease. He loves tanker, but hates the job he does now because it's more service tech than driving. This summer has been brutal for him, having to dig up the septic tanks to pump them... And most people have no clue where their tanks are at, so he's dog lots and lots of holes here in the Texas heat. It's just too much physical labor and he's not getting any younger, lol. It also doesn't pay enough, so we started looking. We are a little limited because we are just outside of the DFW, and most tanker work is out of Houston and won't let you take the truck home. That 5 hour drive every week or even every other week really eats away at your home time and he just doesn't want to do that. And who knows if his car would last that long, haha! I'll update when we know more and will make a post relaying his experience at Schneider. :)

Here are a couple of Superior Carrier paycheck screen shots from the 2 week vacation I took in Sept. First week is 1 holiday(Labor Day) and 4 vacation days. The second is 5 vacation days. They pay 48 hours for a week. You get 2 weeks at your 1 year anniversary. You get several holiday pay days plus a week of personal days when your insurance starts. 90 days I think.
