I struggled with the skills also big time and with everyone watching, it was impossible some days. I had to do the skills thru tears many many times.
Our school had us do it this way ; pull the trailer back to where the rear tire is parallel with the first cone. Then Hard left until we see the middle of the landing gear in our mirror. Then hard right until the trailer is straight behind the tractor. Then Straight until the rear tire is just above the yellow line. If I see the far cone in my mirror, I am too far. Then hard right until I see the middle of the landing gear in the mirror, then hard left until I am straight in front of the trailer. Then I should be lined up.
Hope this helps. I cursed so much doing the skills and thought I would never ever get them. One day, it just sank in.

 

Super easy. Depending on if you're doing sight side or blind side, I'll give you the directions to sight side. Just pull up to the line then hard right until you split the landing gear with the outside drive, hard left until you split the landing gear, hard right to straight then you should be right in front of the hole. Straight line it in.

 

Parallel is right, left, left right.
Offset is right left right
