My son drove for a drive-a-way company during his summer vacations. No air travel was involved. The company arranged outbound trips involving motor homes, bread trucks, or commercial vans, and return trips with leased cars returning to auctions. His motivation was not pay but visiting friends along the way. He often slept in the motor homes or bread trucks. Years ago, returning drive-a-way drivers could be seen hitchhiking with their tool box, to save bus fare.

yeah its called driveaway, trucks stacked on top are called decking, and need to have doubles and triples, alot of hard work and messy axle grease. Truckmovers is a big company, only can make money with the endorsement, want you to have a tow car. Pay you as an independent, no insurance.

okay i have done this kind of work and my brother too.... here is the deal if you are willing to stay out a long while and make next to nothing and also be responsible for all expenses like your transportation to the next load wich could be 1000 miles away or more then make a call to unimark truck transport in Joplin.. now if you want #### good insurance free to the driver have all expenses paid by the company like air plane tickets rental cars cab fare then look up auto truck and apply... yes you will need a double triple endorsement easy to get... you will need to get a pass port to go to Canada not a lot but they have loads going there and you are free to decline if don't want but the pass port is a requirement after 90 days.. i belive top pay there is something like 54 cents a mile plus you get paid to break down the trucks... its not hard if you can turn a wrench then youll learn fast.. yea you will haul loads up to 97 feet long but don't worrie its easier than you think.. and no im not kidding its easy after you get the hang of it.. only thing bad i can say is its not a job for a family man with kids at home... that's why im not doing it anymore but i had a blast what an experience you will go a lot of places and fly all around the country all on company dime including hotels.. i love my wife and kids and they begged me to get out of it some day when they are all grown up i may get back to it

I already have those endorsements, plus the passport. What are some reputable companies? Some like you explained, employ you as a employee, and not a 1099 contractor.

auto truck transport... my brother worked for those guys for a while.. they treated him very well.. its union with union benefits they pay for everything including your transportation to orientation. it may take a couple of weeks to finish training and get out on your own but its worth it.. like i said that type of work is not for the family man especially at the beginning because you will be in training a couple weeks and the best thing to do is just get it over with.. they do regular payroll your a company driver with full benefits and i belive from day one.. go to the web site www.autotrucktransport.com and read up on them and i stand corrected i just looked its 30 days then you get full company paid health insurance.. good luck if your up for it and you have the patience to get thru training youll do fine. and talk to momma and the kiddos before you take off make sure they are okay with the idea of you being gone fore aat least 3 weeks just to get done training.. after training you will be able to bid your loads and they will get you home when you want to.. i cant remember all the details on home transportation but i belive that if you take a load going near your house they will pay one way... in other words say you deliver 100 miles from home and you got friends or family that will pick you up auto truck will pay for your transportation back to work. so if your load out of the house is in texas and you live in ohio like i do they will fly you out of the nearest airport and arrange all transportation needed to get you to that load.. and every load after that they pay all.. they really are a great company as i stated in my last post if my wife and kids would understand me being gone for a while at first i would be there.. my brother did really well there and i wanted to go with him but my family didn't support the idea.. and you all know what they say.. happy wife happy life.. again good luck.. if you want a real drivers perspective on them pm me and ill put you in touch with my brother he will explain it all to you before you call them.. ive always belived the best recruiters for a company are the drivers.

And they will lay company drivers off and still have the independents coming in after loads and the union will stand by and let all this happen. The union they use is all for the company and could care less about the drivers.

If you had good kidneys they wouldn't be for long. I'd bet that would be fun in the wintertime too, not.

What you pay for and get paid for depends on what company you are pulling for. Some places are union, others are independents. Each has its pros and cons. I started doing this and am enjoying it so far. But... if you are lazy and don't like to hussle... forget it.
