Yeah, I just started with Landstar in the middle of a weird fuel crisis. Would it be rude to ask brokers for a higher fuel surcharge?

How about negotiating a higher rate?

Most agents if they get load from a 3pl will give you the landstar minimum fsc. Some will do more..... but don't count on it.

No, always ask for more if the surcharge is not enough. Worst case they say no. Sometimes on contract freight they can't because the customer sets the surcharge.

Maybe I'm off a little bit. When I went for the 90 day class the instructor gave us some figures. One was to get in, and one was to go 90 days. I remember figuring 3% to go from app to past 90 days.
Not making it up. Check yourself. Good luck!

Make sure you get the ComData Fleet Advance app for your phone. That's how you find the cheapest fuel.

Yeah, I'll have to check that out. I've been using the LCAPP part of the webite to check fuel discounts, but it's clumsy and slow and it's annoying to break out the laptop every time I want to find fuel. How do you register for the app? Just the card number and driver id, or do I need some special code from Landstar?

The app is on the google play store (and presumably the Apple equivalent). I don't remember the registration procedure, but it'll tell you what it needs.

The prices at two TA's can be as much as fifty cents different even though they are near each other. Look at Harborcreek vs. Kingsville - only 80 miles apart. The LCAPP page might say each gives a twenty five cent discount or cost plus two cents, but that doesn't actually tell you what the price is. You need the app.

Really Landstar is not particular at all just look at the trucks and drivers there there quickly becoming a Mega ! Used to be a good place ! Now you have to watch out for their drivers also!

They are as particular as they need to be. They only accept drivers who have a couple of years of experience, have their own truck, and can make a living without someone constantly telling them what to do and when to do it. In this industry, that is a pretty fine filter.
