Driver has a load shift, seems to think the green book rules are just suggestions.

Thanks. Still not gonna log it unless I get told to.
That's just common sense to do load checks.

    Airborne and SAR Thank this.

A buddy of mine told me that unsecured cargo has to physically fall off the deck. He said if you're doing load checks then it's not insecure unless it's left the deck. In other words if the man hassles you over a loose chain/strap tell him to jam it that's what load checks are for. His words not mine.

    SAR Thanks this.

Again, how do you prove you did one if you don't log it?
I would disagree. But we've all got buddies that say #### that's wrong

How do you prove you fueled if you didn't tag it? How do you prove you went to sleep unless you tagged it? How do you prove you loaded unless you tag it?

I'm off duty. I'm not switching to sleeper.

I can fuel, pretrip and do a load check while on duty in the morning. Or just pre-trip and load check. No-body needs to know what I'm doing when I'm on-duty.

SAR and Bean Jr. Thank this.

You still need to log some on duty time to do the pre trip, fueling, or whatever you are doing.

You also need to be logging some on duty time, even if it's just flagging it, every 150 miles or three hours, to do your load checks. You don't have to notate it as a load check, but you do need to be stopping, and when you stop, you need to be logging said stop.

    Airborne and DDlighttruck Thank this.

Like I say never been told to. As a rookie I did but that's long in the rear view.
Have you had a DOT look that close at your logs?

    SAR Thanks this.
