I bought a 2011 Volvo with a ISX 15. My fuel pump looks exactly like this one in the picture. Now is that that a 3 plunger pump? I know when doing my research before the worst case scenario is I would have to buy a new fuel pump from cummins. From what I understand the 3 plunger types are not servicable so my only options are to buy a clean 2 plunger type and rebuild or buy a new pump.

    Thanks

If you buy a new pump (best bet) you must also replace fuel lines because of new routing not because yours may be worn. Cummins parts man will have notation in Quickserve that gives all new lines, seals and gaskets needed. There may even be a kit that contains all. Can't remember for sure. Good luck. A big, messy, aggravating job to replace that troublesome pump.

Thanks, looks like I have a 3 plunger type which would not be servicable with a updated kit. Just found a good used 2 plunger that looks updated for 500$. It does not have paint on it which could mean its an updated one. It ls worth the gamble.

You BETTER MAKE 100% SURE that it is updated. Owning a shop, I deal with ISX on almost a daily basis that these pumps have completely wiped out. Usually it is #4 or #5 that seems to take out the ECM along with the whole block. This pump is the most serious known issue that I have ever seen with any engine. It's failure is a 20-$35,000 proposition. Please proceed with great care. Good luck.

This fuel pump 859000 miles on this motor and it still has the original fuel pump. I know these are definitely an engine killing issue with the ceramic parts in these pumps. but I'm not about to pay 4200$ as qouted to me today for a new pump from Cummins. I rather gamble and get the motor to 1 million in the original pump and save my money on a reman engine. Seems absurd they want to charge that much for a pump. I am hoping that this pump I am buying is updated but if not I know I can rebuild it with the updated kit.

This 3 plunger pump has big possibility to fail. They will fall apart if you replace parts. Replace with newer 2 plunger pump it will cost about $3000 but will prevent from ticking bomb destroying engine.

Was not this a recall item? Especially if they KNOW it is a ticking time bomb?
