If minimum wage goes up to 15 bucks an hour?

One simple concept which a lot of rightie wingnuts fail to understand, is the fact that an increase of the minimum wage is also an increase in a market force called economic demand. That's why the smattering of layoffs which follow an increase in minimum wage because of corporate shortsightedness is typically followed by extended periods of sustained job growth.

It says NY, he just didn't capitalize it. California and Illinois are pushing for it too and I'm sure there are others

 

this is true, supply and demand...the MORE drivers available, the less a boss/company can pay. move to an area of the country where they cannot get drivers? sky is the only limits on pay.

 

Can't happen too soon. Human beings weren't needed for those jobs in the first place. Think of how much irreplaceable human time is being saved with those touch screens both for the customers and the minimum wage people who now have to go do something else...

Human time is worth a lot. If someone is doing something basically worthless I'd love to force them to try to find something else. Worst case they become fully worthless. Seems like we aren't risking much on that?

And that difference absolutely shows itself in pay doesn't it? That money isn't free, and anyone who thinks that being a truck driver is unskilled labor in the same sense as fast food or retail is being a little silly.

Being a brand new truck driver has a lot more in common with being general basic labor on a construction site. Yeah it's a ####ty job that pays ####, but if you stick around and get some skills the money will come.
