Any CAT guys here that can run my serial number? Just wondering what my 6NZ can be uprated to with a factory flash. Driveline is rated for 1850 ft/lbs and is supposedly set at 475/1850 now. Dyno'd at 402 HP at the wheels when I bought it, 24.5 rubber.

Also, I'm confused - it shows ADV 475 HP and MAX 445 HP. What does this mean? ADV = Advertised horsepower?, but it's above MAX? Just curious.

    THANKS

I never ran your serial # but I'm almost positive all the 6nz series you can up rate to 550/1850 without a hard parts change. It's just a simple reflash. Especially because yours is a 475 now.
There not like some the early low HP E models that required hard parts to get to 550.

All 6NZ can be uprated to 550/1850.
As for the advertised HP and max HP being different I'm not 100% sure on the reason they do it but I know many times it has to do with a "smart torque" power rating where it limits output power based on engine load and other parameters.

    dieselfuelonly and Oxbow Thank this.

For what it's worth, a Peterbilt mechanic friend of mine told me that they (Peterbilt), would flash my C15 475/1650 torque engine to 550 HP, but not uprate the torque as long as I retained my low torque 10 speed tranny.
Now that I've upgraded to an 1850 torque 18 speed, they'd have no problem flashing the whole program.

Heard the story so many time of guys flashing from 475 to 550 and noticing little to no difference. A dealer reflash is worthless. Need a GOOD tuner to make a real difference. A cat dealer is limited to using the latest cat file. Latest does not equal greatest

Thanks Lester. You're absolutely right. I'm still on my factory 475HP file. No need to pay a bunch of money for little to no results.
