Great post @Rontonio, this is where knowing your equipment, understanding the weight distribution of your cargo, and being able to accurately anticipate your axle weights, separates the contenders from the pretenders...
And the contenders know that paying for padded weights is far cheaper than ordering new permits and/or the waiting time, sometimes those pieces of paper are expensive and throwing them away sucks!

Professional Passenger and cke Thank this.

Know your states, know which ones you can call and get your permit while on the phone. I always call Texas, they are always very helpful, will work with you on routes and email your permit while you are on the phone.
Know whitch one auto issue and find a good permit service(not Comdata)

Right now I'm using Comdata. They seem OK. What is the problem with them?

Permit writes can really help if they are knowledgeable and incline to do more than just take an order.

Good ones will help you with route suggestions in areas you might not be familiar with or help expedite a permit you need quickly if they have the ability to do so. They will also be familiar with configurations that may lead you towards permit app rejection.

I have used the same permit lady to do permits for me in states where I need help for years. She is familiar with issues that come based on my size or weight and often can tell when a state is raising unexpectedly long to issue permits.

I use a different permit lady for all
my California permits because they have the escrow accounts and applications for all the local permits that are required in addition to the state permit.

Hope this helps. Oh and yes cost per permit is not as much a factor as reliability, trust me on this.

Some states are not up to date. The $500 annual Tn for 120000 # is now $1500
