I gotta disagree w/this statement.Dead end job? What job isnt?Truckdriving isnt just a job-its a adventure. Its one of the most vital-dangerous jobs that can be performed.Thats why its sooo regulated. There is a multitude of aspects in the trucking career. From hauling toilet paper to nuclear waste-and everything in the world in-between.The negativity comes from within-not the job.Sure-if you drive a van n bump docks-n thats all you do-well-sorry-you picked the boring path.Like many have replied, its all on the individual.
And may i mention,if your making the same money you did 15-30 yrs ago,may i say ive got some oceanfront property id like to sell you in Arizona.
If i can do it-anyone can.Im just a boy from a small town in jersey-that started pulling bull-wagons to n from rodeo's on the west coast in 1985.I didnt grow up in my moms basement w/a x-box,wondering what im gonna do,wondering if i really have to work, procrastinating?
I started working at 16-moved out west when i was 20.Trucking was n is awesome.I never hauled chemicals or reefer.I took breaks from trucking-dead end jobs such as rebuilding offshore powerboat motors n drives.Welding.A/c n heating.Management.
Always returned to trucking.Even did a fleece purchase deal just for my own training-after i learned the business end, learned the lanes-etc-etc- i turned in the truck-spent 2 yrs operating n welding heavy equiptment-took that money i saved and bought a truck.
Now i have 2 trucks,2 trailers,2 homes n 1 shop in the united states. My company has supported all that.Right now its supporting my driver n his family. In 3 months,my driver is shutting down for jan n feb,as the business is paying in excess of sixty grand-as were re-powering both trucks.
I learned the hardway many years ago-how to make trucking more enjoyable.Outfitting the cab w/fridge,microbox,coffee maker.A little smokey-joe charcoal grill n a 5$ aluminum lawn chair.
I never cried about being away from home
I didnt let it turn into a DEAD END job.I never busted my butt-i never ran everyday till my 11th hour. For over 30 yrs-ive always ran the same-9-10 hours a day-looking forward to taking my 34 at the end of the week.
I made it work for me.
My driving skills n trip planning have been fine tuned probably before you were even born.Even tho im welding a pipeline in Ecuador now- ill be running my rebuilt 379 come april-on lanes that i know-turning down loads from just the handfull of brokers i deal with-cause im BUSY!
Thats what this so called,DEAD END job has done for me!
Little advice, get your own truck-put a flatbed behind it n go OTR!Haul-who-what-where-why for yourself.Have some PRIDE in your work.Every load will be different-all your load securing will be different, every week will be different n if your smart-you wont have to drive 11 hours a day-n youll be learning on your own.
    Drive on!

    Here is more truth.....
It was 28 this morning, and there was ice on the truck.

There was a nice kitty at this mom & pop stop, but I didn't give it a can of my supply that I keep for truck stop kitties, because it already had a tray of catfood, and two trays of chicken. Probably the cat of the house lol. Amazes me how they adapt to life at truckstops, and don't mind the noise, and greet everyone lol.

I keep food for animals also. Always makes me smile to see one hanging around and being friendly. I need to get me a dog to travel with me...
