    NYMAVTNHME?

Rates good enough to run up here? What about day cab or sleeper?

Haha I've been getting the urge to save up and buy a day cab and a van Trailer possibly do some runs as an owner op strictly up here in the north east. On my own authority....

Anyone do that now? If onhoes it working and would you recommend a sleeper? How are the rates?

Ive found good money going to N East.Slim pickens n slim money going south. If you get good pay going north, usually you can get a load of water out of Mass-only paying 2.00$ a mile-but itll get you down to jersey or maryland.
If you can daycab it-youll do real well going in n out of NYC.
The traffic and the maniacal 4 wheelers will drive ya bonkers-unless your use to it.Quite a few mom n pop parking/eateries off the major highways. If you spend time up there, youll find em.
    Good luck n have fun.

Yeah, im thinking that the farthest i would want to go is like a day run to NJ or maybe MD but im thinking of hauling loads basically through out the north east maybe even eastern pa and back up. do you think that's reasonable? would you recommend a sleeper?

should be able to save enough cash for a truck like a international 9400i or something along those lines for a first rig? sound like a bad idea?

I'm thinking a sleeper first then a day cab down the line. That makes more sense.

Correct-in my opinion.Unless your running local-a sleeper is your friend. From what it sounds like, your starting new(on your own),keeping that in mind-your gonna need to run.Your gonna need to trip plan, your gonna need to start a relationship w/some brokers, your gonna need to take the good w/the bad---ex- take that 1.60 a mile load from jersey to maryland-then that broker will give you the 3.00 a mile run from maryland to white plains NY.Make friends on the phone w/those brokers-1 or 2 will turn out to be golden.Bend alittle bit-but let em know right off the get-go,that they cant take advantage of you.
Youve got to stay out on the road.
Reading your post-you say "day run".That would mean getting a day cab n staying local. You cant day run down to jersey-then eastern PA and back up---------thats 3 days right there-or more.
Unless you can squeak out a local job-then i would consider going OTR in the north east. With your new business-youve got to run and theres nothing wrong w/the Georgia to Canada border-there is alot of money to be made there in that lane.
Sorry- i dont know your personals-newly married, kids, house lease-etc?Can you stay out for 5-6 weeks?
In my opinion-if youve got baggage other then a new business-and you dont want to stay out 5-6 weeks, stay local w/a day cab.
Nothing is a bad idea for your 1st rig.I nternational,freightliner,volvo----no matter what you get - its a crap shoot.Used is used.Might make your 1st year w/just oil changes.Might throw a rod in 2 months.Hard call.
The fact that you want to do it,is impressive.
I'm sure youve read on here-the guys are correct-------have a good 10-15 grand in the bank after all your start up costs. It's gonna be a few months before money starts coming in.
If you get rolling w/the sleeper n have enough for a extra-get that day cab n run it local in new jersey, either out of the port(newark) or get in a nyc lane.
I know drivers looking for work in elizabeth n newark nj.
Let me know what your thinking-i do have connections in the tri state area.
