Good for you dude, but that's not the case for myself...

I'll have nothing but eld exempt trucks from here on out, so it doesn't matter...

The hours of service suck, and I refuse to let a law dictate how I operate my truck...

I enjoy doing things on my schedule, I sleep when I'm tired, truck when I'm not and do whatever I want...I've been around trucks my whole life, I'm a 3rd generation driver and owner and I sure as hell didn't get my fat butt into a truck to be a clock puncher.

The problem is too many "drivers" now days were straight from flipping burgers and would love nothing more than to punch a clock, work 10 hours and sit in their truck screwing off the rest of the day.

ELDs suck, they were paid for through the ATA and heavy lobbying from large trucking corporations... nothing to do with safety.

You can parrot how great they are to everyone else but I'm seeing through the smoke.

I only have "one" question, have you ever given them a chance and how long did you use them for, I just find a LOT of people giving a bad impression of them but yet, have never personally used them.

No sir, never will give them a chance because I adjust my log book every single day.

I never drive during rush hours, I always like to truck at night and I have problems sleeping more than 5 hours at a time so I'm always changing that 14 hour clock.

That said, I don't think they're bad for everyone, but guys who truck like I do... it will be miserable for.

I ran em for 3 months. I just can't see how anyone can say they increase the paycheck.

Only thing i could see was way to many negatives. I saw absolutely nothing positive about em. There's too many restrictions and too many roadblocks. And they seriously make your day pressing. Because there's just no way your logging 15 minutes for a fuel stop. There's always some guy spending 15 minutes sending a fax. Or trying to get shower with no points because he uses em all up for breakfast. Or something that's going to make you stand in line for 30 minutes at least. So there's your 30 minute break used up.

Kind of goes back to your planning that probably NEVER works out as planned anyways. You have NO idea what's going to happen to screw up your day.

It would be nice if one could just wake up. And go about their day on the clock. Fueling. Peeing. And do whatever all in a timely manner. But that just don't happen.

And as I said before, the "recording" device isn't the problem, it's the clock, this is what I was trying to get people to understand, the recording device itself isn't intrusive, its the 14 hr clock window that makes it that way. The recording device and the HOS rules as written are two entirely different conversations!!!

I understand the reasons you run the way you do, I used to be probably just as bad or worse, but if you think about what you are basically saying is that you are better than everyone else because the laws shouldn't apply to you???

Not better, I just don't follow them, I don't feel anyone should have to.

I'm not out here running 5000 miles a week, I'm just going about my day at my own pace... enjoying the ride.

But it IS intrusive. It connects to your ECM so ALL available data is there. It's WAY more than a digital "clock". I see your point about the HOS being the real problem. However, this ELD thing is just further encroachment based on the HOS/paper version. I said from the beginning paper won't last that something computer related would be next. And I'll say it again, the ELD is only a stepping stone to more intrusion like a driver facing camera along with speed limiters. Both of which we're already seeing coming on. Luckily Trump stopped the limiters but once he's gone, they'll find a way to get it passed.

I personally liked getting a call from the office 3 times day asking why I keep slamming on the brakes. Because the speed sensor didn't work under 35 mph.
