That's why if worse comes to worse, you can cut the cartridge off and unscrew the internal stud off, or cut the cartridge off the threaded stud.
Some mechanic overtightened mine and even with a KD Tools strap band wrench it finally came off, but with the internal stud attached to it.
I just put the stud in a vise and unscrewed the cartridge off.
I reinstalled the stud, put some oil on the rubber seal on the new cartridge and reinstalled it.

To each his own. I would never attempt to cut the cartridge off either. Give the chain wrench a try, you will be amazed. Works great on any stuck filter that people dont lube the seal like they should.
HalpinUout, SAR and daf105paccar Thank this. -
We have had stubborn ones. Do not cut it. Strap wrench with a long breaker bar or long pipe. You just need more leverage.
HalpinUout and SAR Thank this. -
I had a stuck cartridge and bought a heavy duty filter wrench at a KW dealer , plus getting that snap ring out of the spitter you will need a heavy duty snap ring remover , that prick has some tension on it
HalpinUout and Heavyd Thank this. -
Are you certain you were turning it lefty loosey? You may have been tightening it righty tighty.

Just make sure it isn't the air dryer with the bolted on filter from the bottom! You'll never feel more dumb after fighting with a filter and then you find that bolt!
Feedman and HalpinUout Thank this. -
Goodysnap, daf105paccar and scottied67 Thank this.

When I get a stuck on one in a spot where I can't get a snipe on it I use my air hammer with chisel bit, hit it on the thick metal bead, will tear the ring a bit, just don't let the metal kerf get to big or it will hang up. works every time!
