So I show up to a shipper to pickup a pre loaded trailer and discover it has no license plate. Leaving Nebraska to Illinois. The registration for the trailer is in the holder on front of the trailer.

I'm sure I can get pulled over and question about it but will this count against me? CSA points? Will it stay on my DAC? Ticked/fined?

There's a reefer trailer out there somewhere with a Nevada souvenir tag that was purchased at a casino. Months later, I saw it again, hammer down on the interstate. There's more than one way to skin a cat.

what i had been told is, make a copy of the plate on cardboard, and mount it in the plate holder. your company has the records they have a current plate for the trailer. be sure to also keep the registration paper, in the front of the trailer.

i have seen way too many of these, and never an issue at any scale house.

Yeah, 1st rain storm, "pull 'er 'round back, driver". That doesn't sound right to me, just asking for trouble, as is with no plate at all.( those "License Applied For" plates people make up are no good either, btw) Used to be, I hauled rail cans, and some didn't have plates, but the loads didn't pay enough to sit around until daybreak to get one( always haul rail cans at night) and then traffic, so I kept a spare plate in my truck from a storage trailer. I figured ANY plate was better than nothing, and I got away with it, took the plate with me when I dropped it. I still maintain that attitude today, any METAL plate is better than nothing, but that was 20 years ago, and while I'd still try that on a car, I'd never pull a wagon without a plate today, unless you want to meet some new friends.

That's what I was getting at in my other post. I had several plates in the tractor in case I needed one. Some I picked up on the side of the road that had fallen off off whatever they were on. Carried a little ziploc bag of bolts, nuts, lock washers just for that.
Always carried 2 or 3 old mudflaps also; that beats wasting time trying to get something at a truckstop, plus a Comchek for the repair bill. I'd just take care of it and not even mention it to the company.

Done the same thing as well with placards. Keep the crayons handy when paper placard dissolves in rain.

Plates fall off its no big deal as long as you have registration!

It wasn't the plate I was so worried about. Rail cans were notorious for being "non-compliant".

I was pulled over years ago by VA state police. Just a inspection, no tag on trailer, he said something about it. Not that big of s deal. I asked about me putting a cardboard tag on. His response was if i did, i was subject to arrest for counterfeit tag.
As for putting just any tag on, i know in FL they will arrest you for that.
For me if no tag, let the office know and just run with it.

That might be mine. I did that once as a workaround going into texas... DPS might have to chase it.

And #### if I know all the "Tricks..."

If this post caused several company officers to get up and walk the trailer line outside looking for it, then that's good. That means they care.
