It's not the extra .02 cpm that's important, it's that by having a hazmat endorsement you can keep rolling instead of waiting for your dispatcher to find a non-hazmat load. Would you rather sit in a truckstop waiting or grab that load of fingernail polish or paint and keep rolling.

Some drivers joke about .36 cpm, but that's what I made and at the end of the year had racked up $65K. Accessorial pays jack that paycheck up pretty good.

Reno was pretty good, there is a truckstop with a casino inside of it, sort of a private casino but open to everyone. So food was here and gambling over there in the other room. The Ranch I think it was called.

We lost money there pretty much but it is not the kind of loss you complain about. It's entertainment the few times we played.

I preferred the table games at Sky City in 105 mm off 40 in New Mexico but they reinvested the money back into the property and made it really big at the time we stopped running. It got yudge and not the quiet intimate casino it was once. We pretty much doubled whatever we brought in there.

Louisana would be the one place That we do not like gambling in due to excessive losses, the machines simply take it all. Except for that lucky win in Calhoun that got us a free CB radio.

I follow what you are saying i rather sit and paint my nails and wait for a non hazmat load. If im gonna haul something that can blow up a small town i better be paid a lot of money. That's just me.

The runs were nice too. I live fifteen minutes from the terminal. We took a load of wheelchairs from Pittston PA to LasVegas NV. From there we went to Grimway Farms in Barstow California to pick up a load of carrots to bring back to Weis in Milton Pa. Not all their runs are gravy like that. They have a dietz and watson account and a boars head account that can rack up some detention time.

Been to Milton a bunch of times. Delivered to a couple of grocery places there and also picked up loads there. Would fuel and do a break at the Petro.
I love those long, hard runs like you mention; could never adjust to anything local or regional.
I love it in the West; so much that I moved to there from Tennessee.

Grand Sierra casino in Reno has truck parking - the other casinos in Reno I haven’t been to- I think they’re much smaller

I am 55 and I know your not busting my balls, I'm from a time when guys can just be straight with each other and not worry about feelings so much lol. Here is my situation, my 3 kids are grown and last daughter finishes college December 2018. My wife and I are moving to Virginia in 2 years (God willing). I have a small pension and medical benefits from the job I held before doing security work, so I want to get 2 years experience driving up here before we move. This way I hope I can find a driving gig in V.A., because I still need to earn money to get by. I thank all of you for your advice, and feel free to speak your mind, I am not insulted easy, Parris Island has that effect on you, at least it did back in 83 when I went through.
