I don't know what all this whining is about home time. Wanting specific days. By a certain time. Yadda yadda.... This is BS.... Especially when a person is new. How many do you think want Thanksgiving off?
Quit the whining! You work a job on the road. You get routed to home when it works. The company doesn't exist to give you home time on exact days you demand. They have a business to run.
When I talked to an excellent recruiter at Prime. She told me about 3 to 5 weeks out. Then home time. I told her that all I wanted in the near future is to do my taxes. Some kind of time off in March would be fine with me. Just enough to get taxes done. Maybe a few days if there are any problems with the taxes I need to address. Otherwise one day is good with me. She said that's easy.
I want to be easy with the company I work for. If I'm easy with them. They're easy with me. We work together toward one common goal. (that's the definition of a company) I'm looking at an OTR job. I accept all that comes with that job.
And BTW: Yes, I am specifically requesting Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years, to be working. I'm requesting work for all Holidays. I can take time off when everybody else is working.
This does not mean I am definitely going to work for Prime. Even though Prime is in a very small group at the top of my list. The excellent recruiter also told me to reapply after my CDL school. Regulations don't allow them to hold onto applications for more than 30 days. It will only take 24 to 48 hours for the background check. Then she can tell me to come on in. The door is open.
Prime Inc Good Starting company?

I couldn't do OTR in one of those lightweight trucks. Plus they need to bump that 62mph up to 65 like Crete did.
IluvCATS Thanks this. -

I can't do 65mph in a 75mph. Especial with a Prim truck in front of me on a two lane.

I've driven for Prime for a few years and have no complaints. Pay is good, office personell have never given me grief and pretty much leave me alone, equipment is nice, plenty of miles in reefer.
Never had issues getting home time, although I will say there is a difference in the two dispatchers I've had. My first had been dispatching 20 some odd years and if I requested to get home on a certain day, I 100% of the time would get home on that day. A lot of times I would just tell him I'm ready to go home (no advance request, just as soon as you can) and he would pretty much route me straight there. One time he had to bounce me around a few days first because there just wasn't freight going that way. The other dispatcher I've had we were literally always ahead or behind the date requested by one or two days. It is a mystery.
It doesn't matter anymore for us as we run a dedicated run and get home weekly. And I like my new dispatcher just fine, just had that oddity with hometime.
The one thing I think some people would not like about Prime is them wanting you to run 3-4 weeks at a time. Some people just can't do that. Pretty standard in the OTR world though.Need4Speed Thanks this. -

Some people need to get home on time for medical/dental appointments. I can definitely understand the frustration in having to reschedule or just flat out miss appointments. Meanwhile, while their teeth rot out of their mouths.
