    And she raised two d-a-m fine daughters along the way, ones that are willing to go along for the ride even though it sucks. It takes a lot to deal with a situation like this on so many levels. Best of luck to you and yours

    Sorry to skirt around the filter, in this case it needed to be said that way. You can punish me if you need to, I understand.... I might even enjoy it :)

    It is a hard job that you and your sister are faced with. Having all the T's crossed in case she has another episode in the future. My mom died in 1992 after suffering a massive stroke that left her not really with us. She would have passed the first time when her heart rate dropped real low, but they gave her a shot to bring it back up. She passed about a month later from pneumonia. So many ethical questions come into play still even now.

    Is she mobile at all, that would be my worst fear for myself, to not be able to walk any at all. Do you have her at home, or did she have to go to a nursing home? I don't know if she could type any at all to communicate with you some.

    She was mobile when in the hospital and could walk with a walker. After she went to rehab, she no longer was mobile.

    She can read but not write. We've tried communication apps and speech boards, the whole 9 yards. We are left with asking yes or no questions. And she will respond to us, but not the doc. She does not like him. I'm not thrilled with him either.

    She's been in a nursing home since she left rehab. She's got a peg tube for her feedings and that has to be monitored.

    I'm 400 miles away, so I do what I can over the phone and go back when needed. My sister, bless her heart goes every day to see her and makes sure she knows we still love her. She takes her laptop and I send pictures of the grands for her to see.

    For me, the guilt of not being there when these situations come up is horrible. And I have a suitcase on the ready most of the time.

    Sounds like a smart lady. Sorry she lost her mobility, that is unusual loosing it after going to rehab, but it maybe some of the processing controls also. She does have some quality of life at least.

    Mom is back home. They got the infection under control and also figured out that her digestion is slowed so they are giving her meds to aid with that and also slower smaller feedings. My sister said that last night was incredible and mom was trying to be chatty. All good signs. Thank you all for your thoughts! I appreciate it so very much!

    The older I get the more amazed I am at the changes I see being made.
    Being only about twenty some odd years younger than she, I can only imagine the changes she has seen and, all things considered, I wonder how she feels about the progress we've made.

    Happy Birthday!!:occasion4::occasion7:
