Does the steering column go up and down easily? It maybe something simple as the column is not sliding.
My truck (<------- in picture) which is 40 ft ( 12.19 metres) always fought me when I turned the corner. The answer was the column. It was not sliding. Changed it my self. So that issue was solved. year 2005.

Had the same problem. Steering column replacement fixed it right away. It seems like all Volvos have the same problem. Good luck

You do know that the free play is adjustable and its normal operating pratice to adjust steering freeplay.

It may be as simple as U joints from steering shaft. They do tend to "freez " if the rubber bushes are busted and can't hold the greas.

I have a stiffness in my steering on my 2007 volvo fm12 truck. Ive changed the pump, replaced all the seals in the steering box, changed the rubber hoses, changed the resovoir cup, changed a bad king pin and its still not completely soft. When the truck is stopped or moving slowly its difficult to turn especially with heavy load. It also throws all the oil back through the little hole on the resovoir cup/dip stick and as I drive I have to keep stopping to top it up. Any idea? Your help would be much appreciated. Thanks
