I went into the settings to enable rest areas on my husbands rand gps and now when he enters his destination address and starts his trip it's not working. Any idea what the heck happened? He's not very happy with me.

He said the gps shows a red circle through it.

The GPS with a line through it means that the GPS is not picking up a satellite signal. On the back what model is it?

The changing to show rest area's did not do anything to it... so you are safe there.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Where he has it mounted, has it always been there? Anything new around it like another GPS receiver, Dash Cam, etc?

    A pic would help.

    Thanks,
    Mark

He has the dash mount and it hasn't moved nor has he added anything new around it. He hasn't used it in a few days, got back in the truck, I added rest stops then it wouldn't work.

We bought it direct from rand McNally as a refurbished unit and it's never held a charge.bought the extended warranty but he hadn't really been home to send it back.

Edit: he used the reset button a few times and it finally grabbed the satellite feed.

A hint,,,if off for a few days, let charge back up (turned off), then press the reset button and power button at the same time for about 10 seconds.

Not held a charge? Take the loose end of the USB end of the DC cord and wrap around the bracket. The DC end of the take a plastic fork tine or cable tie and slide between the DC plug and socket. Trucks bounce a lot and tend to slide the DC plug out of the socket...

    Thanks,
    Mark

I have a 530LM that has a curious quirk. I bounce from Spokane, WA to the Portland, OR areas 2-3 times a week. When headed back I fuel at the Loves in Troutdale, OR. When leaving there the unit always wants me to go back towards Portland and south then over towards Biggs instead of east down I84. It continuously tries to get me to turn around and go back until I get past exit 45 or so on I84 then it will route me east, although it tells me to exit at 64, but then when I don't exit it just goes on like it never asked me to do that. It doesn't recalc or anything.

I'm not incapable of driving this route without the units guidance but I like to have it running for ETA, speed etc. I often use the weather feature as well. I'm just puzzled by the behavior. I have checked and it says I have the most recent maps.

Do you have set for Allow or Prefer, Shortest or Fastest?

    Thanks,

I have allow most things, avoid tolls, dirt roads and u-turns. I get the same whether Fastest or Shortest.

Change to prefer and how does it affect the route?

    Thanks,
    Mark
