Hey Bubbatrucker. She'll have a ball. I did. I went for six weeks with my significant other and I loved it. I can't wait for next year. Yeah, I bounced a lot, but it made me laugh. :biggrin_2551: I loved the scenery and my camera never stopped from sun-up to sun-down. I kept a journal of my trip and counted Werner trucks everyday. I counted waves from other truckers for awhile, but I didn't get many so I quit. Truckers don't seem to be as friendly as they used to be. I got the finger a few times when I waved, so I quit...LOL

They do ##### about idle time. When I was on the truck with him this past summer and it was 100 degrees in Texas, he told his dispatcher outright that he was going to have to idle the truck to stay cool. We kept it down as much as possible, and even got a motel room a few times to keep it down. I didn't understand how they could complain about idle time, but then tell my BF that he was allowed to idle for his 10 hour downtime. I don't get it. We managed to keep it under 40 percent while we were out though. We would turn the engine on for awhile and then shut if off for awhile. Montana and Wyoming were great because it was like 40 degrees at night and very comfortable, but Texas was so hot.

They are one of the big 'training' companies, which means they take drivers fresh out of driving school, put them with trainers/mentors for about 6 weeks (Werner bases it on miles, not time), road test you, and if you pass, put you in a truck when they have one available.

It is better then to go on to a school, then talk to them about a job? Im 38 and needing a job that will take care of family. I would like to pick a company and stick with them for many years to come and not have to keep bouncing around. Thanks to all that might have any suggestions!!

Werner doesn't have their own school, so you'd have to go through an independant school. You can start you app with them at anytime, as they will pre-hire if they are interested, then you really start the ball rolling once you finish and have your CDL in your hands.

Werner's training is based on driving hours not miles. You have to log 300 driving hours on line 3. Depending on your trainer and how well you can drive it could take anywhere from 4 weeks to 3 months.
