B & T Express (North Lima Ohio) - is questionable at best.

I worked for them for a whole 1.5 days - didn't even make it through the full orientation.

    Here is my story.

I answered the ad they placed for an experienced coil hauler (I have 8 yrs flatbed, 50% coils) with a $10,000 sign-on bonus. I called to inquire if that was a misprint, and it was actually a $10k sign-on bonus, but you had to meet certain requirements. Basically, your MVR and CSA had to be perfect (mine are - i don't mess around with remaining compliant on most things) and had to have experience hauling coils. I said I met their requirements, and went through the application process. They sent me for a drug test and physical, and said I qualified for the $10k. I was like "fantastic! When do I start?"

I drove 2+ hours to get there, and during the first day of orientation, typical paperwork and whatnot. I asked the person who I had been in communication (Cindi LaJoie - Safety/Recruiting) how many driver qualified for the $10,000 sign-on bonus, and she said I was the first one. The next day, after about an hour, the owner comes up to me and says:

"We made a mistake in hiring you."

I just grabbed my stuff, and walked out. Didn't feel like having a confrontation.

How did you make a mistake in hiring me? Was it because I actually qualified for the huge sign-on bonus?

Also, I didn't get paid for my time at orientation like they said I would.

So... Everyone has their own experience with a company, I'm sure there are other drivers who have good experiences with B & T , but I did not. That is my experience.

Make sure that they don't try to mess with your dac. I don't think they can say that you truly worked for them though, since you didn't complete orientation, and never received a paycheck.

I could be wrong, I often am lol.

I might have asked them why, just to satisfy my curiosity. See if they were going to be honest, or make something up.

You didn't listen to everything he had to say? How are you sure they were firing you? You may have cost yourself some cash if they ever paid up that it. I've never heard anything good about them either.

He didn't go into an explanation, he simply said "We made a mistake in hiring you." and had the look in his eyes that spoke volumes. I am not the type to deal with BS, but I also know that when the owner of a company that size (not a mega-fleet) says something like that, his mind was made up.

Also, after speaking with a few friends (and other drivers), they feel B&T was fishing for drivers without the intent of actually paying out the $10k bonus.

Now, granted, without me actually asking, this is pure speculation, but I doubt it.

I think you made a mistake by walking out. Now, you've lost a great opportunity to possibly get more information to use to your advantage down the road for recourse matters. To each is own though. If you did a little research on them here on TTR you could have saved yourself some time. Sucks about your situation but hearing your tale confirms to me what I've always suspected about those high sign on bonuses. I always knew they offer those with some impossible contingency like ZERO CSA information etc etc.

Bacon & Tomato, no Lettuce? Meh, I'd have never responded to that kind of nonsense for any amount of bonus.
