Members of TTR will type @ and a user's name so that member will read the thread and comment. Usually the called member is known as an expert in the area asked by the op.

Let me ask this Question - And lets try not to be Biased

What is the great Plus/Benefit of a Peterbuilt or KW instead of going with my Prostar or a Freightliner?

Assuming I was to just Buy another, larger truck. I know the Pete and KW both have a 77 sleeper and the Freight a 72, the Prostar i Believe is 75. those are all Factory size.
So what the pro/con of going Pete instead of Prostar or Frightliner instead of KW???

Both high, long hood models of Kenworth and Peterbuilt have higher resale vale compared to almost any other model or brand of truck. They look cool and there is no disputing the bring the money on the resale. The only other exception if the Pete 386 seem to hold there value like no other slope nose trucks (same cab and sleeper as the long, high hood version).

All others are secondary for resale by comparison. However International Doug a grave when they built the Prostar. They picked up a bad reputation with the Maxforce engine in the truck. It almost bankrupted the company itself. I think they have come a long way since 2013 but they never really recovered and the resale pricing reflects the reputation of that engine.

In the end it is a tool and anything newer than 2004 is scary at best to me. Most trucks that have anymore than 500k are not worth anything more than scrap value to me. Even if it has a long hood.

Back in the old days, late 50s, my uncle owned a WestCoaster, (which I think is a great looking truck). He couldn't get the truck out of town without something breaking. He and my father learned something from this and that components installed on an International were unique. Yes, it was an Eaton drive axle, but the axles had a different bolt pattern and you had to use the ones made for International. May not be the same today, but still you have to ask, why does International the lowest resale value of any truck, including Volvo?

My 2001 9200 international has all industry standard parts on it. I can get most anything from nappa.

I understand the manufacturer specific parts problem and it's getting worse every day with the newer trucks.

To me it isn't about the big hood. Sure i prefer those trucks but that's simply personal preference. The problem is its a prostar. That specific model has thousands of problems with it. They built it way to complicated and the systems way to integrated with it. For example, the ecm controls the wipers and climate control. All that integration will cost thousands upon thousands in extra maintenance over the life of the truck.

If you had a freightliner columbia or century or an international 9400 it wouldn't factor in my mind, but because it's a prostar i have to wonder if you will keep it long enough to make a large expenditure expanding the sleeper worth it or if the problems and extra cost caused by extra integration of the components is going to have you trying to trade it off a year or two from now.

Also i dont care about resale value. When i buy a truck i plan on running every single profitable mile that it has to offer. Seriously i will get 20 years out of a truck. No matter what model it is, 20 years old and 2.5 million miles it won't have a resale value.
