This last time around, I was offered Oswego, Greenfield, Villa Rica, Houston, and then Findlay. I told my favorite dude I was looking for something like Plainfield, Hooksett, Taylor or Minersville etc. He said none were available that day Tuesday. "Were none available to me but maybe they were available to someone else?" I wondered silently to myself. I ended up taking Findlay, hoping for a good backhaul, and BH came through for me big time: 185 miles east to Youngstown, then to Mount Vernon Monday and a roll back to GP. Will end up being about 2700-2800. I have taken Findlay before and gotten a load to Minneapolis for Monday. Yuk. No paycheck that week.
I had my truck in the shop for a PM. When fueling at GP, I lifted the hood on this truck that I have had for 2+ years. There were no leaks, nothing dripping on the ground, the coolant resevoir is fairly new and was full. I can't even remember the last time I had to add coolant or oil. Hardly ever. I got the truck back before I went on the Findlay load. Oil was sprayed all over the engine, the windshield, and all over the hood on the outside. It looked like someone had drenched it with a bucket of oil. And the coolant reservoir hardly had anything in it and I have had to add 1+ gallons a day to it. The engine has shut off several times while driving on freeway. I'm stuck in Ohio waiting for roadside right now.
Can I be back to GP by Monday for another man sized paycheck next week? Hope springs eternal.
Stay tuned.

I think my first and second year numbers about 134K and 132K miles or so but I went home a lot more as I was still married. And I lived in NC which I think also limited my miles a tad as I didn't run out west as often. About half of 2015 was spent doing the SLC gig out of PW so really can't compare miles for that time frame. Since returning back to OTR I have just ran my ### off as I don't have much of a reason to take a break so the miles just pile up and I have pretty much fine tuned as much as possible the ability to squeeze every last penny I can out of the system given its current set up.
I have also changed into god knows how many loaners during my time here as I am not going to sit around waiting for a PM or other issues blocking be from making money. For the most part I have also been able to find a decent, clean loaner that has served the function until I could get back in my regular truck and I guess I have been really, really lucky on avoiding major breakdowns on the road. I have managed to duct tape together several issues and gotten back to the yard that perhaps would have waylaid others into a motel room for several days but for folks without a whole lot of mechanical knowledge can't hold that against them.
Like you I have decent relationships with most of the office folks except one that seems to have some beef with me for something silly that happened a while ago and he can't let it go but for the most part I just try to do my job and keep my interactions with GP personnel to the minimum. Glad to hear others are knocking down some good miles as well. -
Did some organizing on the chain box in GP today. The yellow box holds a 455 chain, I got at Northern Tools down on I-20 near Great Southwest Parkway . The thin gray box will hold a 275 chain. I got it at The Container Store at I-20 and Matlock.
WARNING: Container store not recommended for people with OCD. Once inside, you'll never want to leave.
Sprayed the chains with WD 40 and they come apart really ez. Will grab some socks from the shop when I get a chance. Always looking to hone the process for maximum efficiency.
Thought for the day : Hone it then own it.

28 and Frank Speak Thank this. -
Poly needs to get onboard with external hanger racks for chains. Makes it MUCH easier.
