So why has our experience been so different?
And, why do you think they will not retain us?
Is it because of the turnover rate?
I don't think so.
Drivers that stay with them, that are safe and on time drivers, are drivers to be retained.
Those drivers are Gold, Platinum, Diamond!
They need us to help maintain their ratings.
And I see no humor in those pictures.
Drivers that made bad mistakes.
I never saw the humor when I made some of the same mistakes, even though the outcome wasn't as bad.
So just laugh it off and don't worry about it?
It might be funny until it happens to you.
The guy at the dock tells you to go to the lot at the end of the road and turn around, then you will be facing the right way to back in to the dock. It is how we always do it.
So you go to the turn around point and turn in... but it rained a LOT the night before.
You get about 30 feet before your steers don't respond, and another 5 feet when you are stopped dead in mud because drives and steers are sunk 8 inches down.
Then you call for a tow truck to winch you out.
When I walked out of the truck I could not determine that the ground was that soft by stomping on it.
So, humor in the difficulties a driver faces? Never.

I also know that as soon as I've out lived my usefulness, Schneider will have no issues cutting ties. Last spring I was almost fired because one of my former trainees said I'd told him to falsify his logs. A quick delve into the records would have showed that I failed him in the logs and understanding HOS sections. Or if theyd checked his logs from his time with me they'd have seen that the gentleman was mistaken. But the word of one person created a storm that took a lot of effort by my local managmemt to undue.
I'm sure you can point to a half dozen things swift could do that would increase safety or decrease turnover. They don't do them because it will cost money. Stepping over dollars to pick up dimes. You look at some of the people we hire and wonder why. The answer is if we can get them thru 6 months with less than $2,500 in accident costs we've made a profit over retaining a veteran driver. The MBAs have crunched their numbers and made their decisions.91B20H8, The_Flying_Dutchman, Joetro and 1 other person Thank this. -
You're not going to win hearts and minds on this one @Moosetek13 lol. I invite you to leave Swift for just 6 months and drive trucks for any other company and you will discover how trucking is meant to be. Swift is in the business of extreme mind control over their poor drivers. It's like they weren't interested in being a successful profitable company, no, more into mind controlling their drivers in some mass experiment probably in collusion with the federal government. -
I’m sure it’s just routine maintenance...... -

You are right about one thing, no one is gonna win hearts and minds over in this debate. -

I have to say that I was almost with Swift for 6 years as L/O, but left when the miles for us dropped just way to much. When I went there I already had at least 17 years experience. At the time it was a great fit. Now I have to say where I am, we have lots of safety policies that we took from Swift and they work just great here, Transport America
I have to say that as far as Swift, more communication is need, especially back about 7 years ago when Plus 1 first started. So many drivers actually did not know how it worked, and many of the new drivers all thought that what was in the pplan, it was gospel, and that is when the accident rate really went up, drivers pushing it
